This is just about 7/8 months after some of the Argylls tested positive as well.
What makes them turn to drugs? I would be interested to know if they were young recruits or older people and hgiher ranks.

oh and I refuse to call themthe Royal regimant of scotland - stupid name!

i know that they can be immediatly discharged if found with illegal drugs in their systems as i thinkg it's part of their contract, so for those who don't want to serve their country anymore, they can take drugs and not have to do their years notice

fin54 · 17/05/2008 22:25

My son is a member of the BLACKWATCH Regiment, as far as I can understand the soldiers who were taking drugs are all junior ranking members of the Battalion. I also refuse to call the Royal regiment of Scotland they will always be the BW to me and our family and I am very proud of them all.

saltire · 18/05/2008 11:08

I did actually. many people do on here. I can't help it, it looks ok when I type it, but it's not. It's the Fibromyalgia, it affects my brain! what's left of it

Shoshe · 18/05/2008 11:11

saltire · 18/05/2008 11:14

shoshe - there was a thread aobut Fibro in health, and i said that you had tried Acupuncture. and it helped you.
I got your email, pretty sad, Ds1 is only 10, don't think he is ready to be shown those yet, but children should be told about it

sorry this has nothing to do with the Black watch

Soldiers aren't a breed apart, they reflect what goes on in the population at large. Lots of people take recreational drugs so there re bound to be people in the army who do so as well! Provided they do it in their own time and in a way that it doesn't affect how they do their job then I don't see the problem.

Shoshe · 18/05/2008 12:53

Saltire can you link me to it cant find it. Thank You.

scaryteacher · 18/05/2008 13:36

The problem is Seashell that it does affect their job. I would hate my dh to be at sea on patrol with the reactor being maintained by someone who was out of their tree...or imagine someone flying fast jets in that state...or being on patrol in Iraq and killing someone as their responses weren't up to the job.

There is no place for recreational drugs in the Armed Forces, and anyone who takes them should be discharged from service asap. That is a part of the conditions of service, and people know this when they join up. That is why random drugs tests take place irrespective of rank or rate, and anyone who is caught is out. Bloody good job too.

Should have added to my posting about the drug issue, I DON'T AGREE that soldiers should be taking drugs. I would hate to think that my son was on the front line with another soldier who had been high on drugs before going on duty, as they depend on each other to cover their backs when doing their job.
Although if a soldier wishes to get out of the army it is one sure way of doing so NOT the best way if you ask me.
