There are only a few dozen left in The Forces now...

Perhaps because it is a bit strange to have a topic for people who are spouses of people in the forces. We don't have similar threads for people who are spouses of firefighters, or bakers or long-distance lorry drivers.

I think that years and years ago there were one or two very prolific posters who were army wives. Perhaps that is what generated impetus for the topic then.

It's not really that strange. It's a different way of life to most.

I remember many of those posters - not just Army wives though, there are two other Services, and there were submariners partners/spouses who used to post a lot (and their DC must be all grown up by now)

Being in the Forces isn't really like other jobs, though I think the blue light services come closest, but of course they don't get moved around every few years at timings completely out of their control.

MrsDTucker · 19/05/2024 21:40

I'm not an army wife either but there just be more people about.

Are you saying their partners must have retired so they no longer post?

Probably the woman who lives next door knows what you are talking about and the woman who is in the play park knows what you are talking about .
Everyone who lives in your estate their spouse does a similar job in the armed forces and the children are all pad brats , they each know what the other child next door is going through .It can be described as very insular ,

What?

You know nothing about the life then .

MissConductUS · 19/05/2024 23:03

I'll ask my daughter to join. She's marrying an Army officer in three weeks.

Thanks. My husband is about to retire after 22 years. I just wanted a chat seems impossible 😂😂

From what I've heard, the British soldier is going on the endangered species list, so it's not surprising that there are fewer Army spouses around. I'm an ex-US Army member myself, though my DH has never served. So, I guess as couples, we're mirror images. 😁

I have a lot of military in my family, and we are very pleased she's found such a nice young man to marry. Congratulations to your husband on his retirement. I was only in the service for six years.
