Does anyone know what a schoolie (ETM) is in relation to the navy. My DH is considering joining the navy and someone told him he should consider this job. We cant find any info anywhere about what it is.

As far as I'm aware a schoolie is an Instructor Officer. ETM is a new one on me...my DH is a Weapons Engineer Officer and has taught at RNEC Manadon, when it existed, and on the Advanced Staff Course at JCSC Shrivenham, but only for a couple of appointments. From the look of the job description, this may be a straight schoolie (instructor) job in Engineering, rather than interspersed with sea going appointments. He needs to contact the Recruiting Office to learn more.

How old is your DH, and does he have a degree?

I never went there - we weekended as DH was Directing Staff on the ACSC and doing his MA at the same time, so I would have seen nothing of him! I used to ring him at 0100 to mank that he hadn't called me, and he was still in the office either writing the bloody staff course, marking stuff that his seminar group had handed in, or trying to write his own essays.

Hope you get what you want...what course is your DH doing there? Is it the ISC? Enjoy the balls - they are great, and the college itself is a marvellous building.

May not have been - when was he there? DH is 47, he's not that young!! I however, am years younger, well, 21x2 anyway! DH was at for his application courses in the early 80s, and was then on the staff in the WE dept from 90-92 I think. He did the LGC I think either 89 or 90...this is now soo far back. Your FIL may have known my Dad who was the pusser at Greenwich from 91 onwards I think it was. Same surname ad DB obviously!

My Dad died in 2001 - you could ask your FIL if he knew him - DB is now the only one with that particular surname in the RN now I think.
