I have a friend there and she and her family are loving it.

My sister used to live there. She loved it and the kids thought it was great. Always sunny and monkeys in the garden! It took some getting used to of course as it is different. At the time (10 years ago) women would have to dress a bit conservatively (cover legs and shoulders), but could go wherever they wanted to go.
They had lots of trips in the jungle and there was a fabulous fun park near the capital (Jerudung Park). If you have the chance: go for it!

god yeah if i was given this chance i would jump at it, what a experience it would be.

Thanks all. Just worried about the distance really. Have elderly parents who wouldn't/couldn't make the journey so wouldn't see dd. Plus have a dsd who we wouldn't be able to see either.

Like the idea of monkeys in the garden! Bet one ends up called Boots!

Have been on the HIVE website but it is very biased towards male soldier - wife at home with kids and we would be the opposite, means dh is feeling a bit 'kept man-ish'.

Have got till end of week to decide. Thanks again

I have a friend who has left after 3-4 years out there they extended as enjoyed so much, not sure if this goes for everyone but they do get flights in the package for family to come over or for you to use to come back (not high ranking). They also had a great home help/maid (cant think of better word to use at moment) who has since come over to visit them in the UK. They have 3 children and had an amazing time out there. The distance is an issue but if the flights are within the package may be that will help? Hope this helps? Good Luck.

What did you decide Mousemate?

MouseMate · 05/03/2008 08:39

Well thank you all for your help, but it's been blown out of the water by dh's Ex. She has said that there is "NO WAY" her daughter would be coming to visit us "IN THAT DIRTY STINKING PLACE" . I really dont want to spend a year or more without seeing dsd, and of course neither does her dad. Especially as she has just hit the awful teenager stage

We were nervous about the move in any case, (although we had decided to go for it) and this has been the clincher. I'm disappointed and a leeeetle bit annoyed with Ex but it's a no go now. Just gotta tell records now (and you wait, it'll be a posting to exotic Tidworth, or bloody Fally for being such an ungrateful cow!!)

Hi all, just a quick update. I didn't get exotic Tidworth after all - we are all off to sunny Cyprus in the summer - so big smiles all round. DSD has actually asked about coming with us (totally shocked when that came up!) but even if she doesn't at least we will be able to see her for school hols.

Catch you later, am off to buy some factor 50!
