Locks on upstairs MQ windows

Hi Girls,

My ds (7) has been threatening (when in one of his many rages) to jump out of the upstairs windows and tonight, he actually told me he was going to kill himself and locked himself in the upstairs loo. He is tiny and thin and could actually easily climb through the fanlight.

All of the other upstairs windows have 'safety' catches that can be easily opened by him as there are no locks with keys (as there are in our own house that we rent out). I think by law, landlords only have to provide ground floor locks because of theft potential but surely it's bonkers not to have locks with keys on higher floors?

Anyone think I'll get a postive response if I call MHS and ask them to fit lock on every upstairs window (and there are many!!!). I'm so worried that one day, he will actually jump!

Anyone else have this problem and do any of you have MQs with locks and keys?

ps - behaviour issues not relevant to this post - I realise it's not normal for a 7yr old to be threatening this kind of thing but he's a 'highly senstive child' and going through a current bad patch with his daddy being deployed.

The bathroom doors are the old fashioned sort with locks you cannot open from outside so if he really decided to jump, there'd be no way for me to open the door......in fact, perhaps I should ask MHS to change the door handles and locks to the ones you can open with a 50 pence.

loopy do any of your neighbours have keys for their windows, I think in your house (if same as ours when we lived round the corner) that 1 key fitted all windows and neighbours

The house we are in has individual locks for each window and when we asked for the keys to those that are missing (or even the window that is locked shut) we were told tough as our DCs are of an age to not require locks anymore Shock

AFF woman help needed I think, sure they ran a campaign in Germany about locks on windows but may have been due to the wide opening windows we had there

Hmm - it's tricky Pimms. MHS have told me they can do nothing as the windows and safety catches aren't broken.

The window handles don't even have locks, let alone keys.
MHS woman didn't even know about bathroom doors being fitted with 'opening' safety locks

You could replace handles to windows yourself (your dad will be able toWink) you can buy locking ones from B&Q we did this in the house we rent out they were about £10 per handle but worth it if little monkey is being a monkey Grin

Good idea Pimms - I'll try DIO first and when if they say "no", I'll buy some then - blimey, that's a lot of windows though!
