DH is out, he's not surprised but gutted.
Doing well at looking to his contacts and working out his options for what to do next.
We were fairly certain it would happen but it looks like he was hoping it wouldn't more than he admitted. Screwed for his pension too

Sorry to hear that Yorky. Sad

SarahJessicaFarter · 12/06/2012 21:49

I was wondering if anyone had had news today. Sorry to hear it's not what you wanted Yorky. Onwards and upwards Smile and in the meantime here's some Wine

VirtuousVamp · 13/06/2012 12:41

Just rubbish. Know a few people who have been made redundant not through their own choice, just before their pension point. Making me very angry and disillusioned at the minute.Angry

Good luck with everything Yorky - I'm sure it will all work out well in the end, but that doesn't make the present any easier!

pimmsgalore · 13/06/2012 13:01

Yorky hope all turns out well in the end. We weren't affected this time but DH was very cross that someone else took it upon themselves to tell one of his soldiers that they had been, he really wanted to break the bad news himself as he knows the guy well. DH was in a bad mood when he got home think it is affecting everyones morale :(

Yorky · 13/06/2012 14:05

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone, I ought to be grateful for not having to move so often now (our 5yr old DS collected 7 addresses before his 5th birthday!) but DH has wanted RAF since he joined cadets as a teen a loing time ago!
I know its just the readjustment of his ideas but he was pretty angry about it this morning, probably a good thing he's on a conference now and won't be back till Saturday so he can work things thorugh in his head and ring all his contacts and collect job offers Grin
Scary the numbers that are left in his dept now - tasks just aren't going ot get done :(
And I agree Pimms, morale is pretty thin atm

DH avoided it again this time but from what he's said it's been a lot tougher this time with a lot of people who didn't volunteer going. It sounds like in quite a few cases (including DH's) the actual telling was very badly handled indeed. Hope everything works out for you Yorky Smile

shhhgobacktosleep · 13/06/2012 18:46

We were shot in the first tranche and just as you screwed over with regards to pension. Both dh and I were both very upset initially, he loves(d) his job and as a family we have sacraficed so much for it but we are now moving on, although admittedly still feeling bitter. Onwards and upwards Smile

Yorky · 14/06/2012 19:09

Sorry you got it too Shhh, but nice to hear there is life out of uniform :)

Though it pains me to say it given the bad news in this thread, I'm still here. Becoming steadily more and more world-weary I have to say however.

Like everyone else I know an awful lot of people who have gone recently and in the first wave; very sad and even though it would be very unprofessional of me to comment on station morale....well, I think people can work that one out for themselves...

SarahJessicaFarter · 17/06/2012 22:18

Thing is Wingdad, and probably no one will want to hear this, for me (ok married to the mob) it is like watching reality hit in an increasingly volatile wave. Although the reality is that austerity is coming, redundancy has been on the cards for a long time, no one is truly prepared. Ever. I worked for a large pharmceutical company who decided to pull the plug on a particular drug. We made 250 people redundant in one day. They had no idea this was coming. The team (all 250 of them) came into work for a conference. The announcement was made en masse. Then alphabetically groups of staff were called to individual areas of the building to be given their redundancy packages. Men, women, pregnant women, men with children, women with children, trainees the lot. They were then given a ticket to go and talk to a HR rep for 5 mins each to discuss what would happen next. I saw 20 people that day. The hardest day I have ever, ever had to do in HR. And that was handled very well. Needless to say I spent more than 5 minutes with each person I saw. but there isn't a lot you can say. But... when it all settles down, when the happy with their lot go and the not so happy with their lot go. It won't be long before you really won't even notice any major difference in morale. The toughest part I can see, is having lots of people who have been made redundant still there for the next 12 months. In my opinion that is the travesty. It should be shorter. It is better for everyone. Better for those made redundant and better for those who have to carry on. Malaise is infectious. Good luck and keep the morale up!

MrsSnaplegs · 18/06/2012 05:52

Wing dad glad to see you're still here - me too Smile
I completely agree about the morale thing, we have many who were not selected for redundancy who are now saying they are going anyway - if not now then certainly before the 2015 pension change
Morale is not great, we are all having to do more with less, people are getting less and less time at home and I think reality is hitting

LtEveDallas · 18/06/2012 06:20

Strangely my place has been hit harder by VERS than AFRS. We only had 8 mil 'in the frame' this time round, and only one (very very senior) got it - and he's V pissed off. We are struggling with all the 'posts' that have now come to an end, people posted out and not being replaced but they still expect the same amount of work to be done. I've got one WO1 that for the next 9 months or so has to do the job of his whole department - 6 people. Plus he has no Line Manager, no-one left in his chain to report on him. It's a farce.

My own dept had 6 Civilian HR when I started the job just over 2 years ago. The last one leaves at the end of this week - its only me, the RAO and the FSA left! I extended in post for 2 years because I loved the 'team' so much - but am now seriously considering leaving, Ive no 'team' left. I've reached my 22 thankfully, but TBH it's only guilt for those I'd leave behind that is keeping me from signing off.

(PS MrsSnapLegs - good luck on the posting, was one of the places I always wanted to go, but never made it. Hope La Linea market is still going strong when you get there )
