We have just been told that we are being posted to Benson in Feb. We have a 5 year old girl and 12 year old boy. Because of his shift patterns (and up-coming training away from home, and postings to Bastion) we are going to have to get an au pair so that I can still work. I am told that we are only eligible for a 3 bed. Does this change if we need live in child care? Are there any 4 bed at Benson? How do I approach this and who do I talk to?

I all ways thought it was no more than 20 miles - lots here are quartered 19.5 miles away and often hear it said that they are as far away as is allowed?? Get DH to get digging in the JSP though - you know what DE are like they will tell you what's easiest for them!

planetpotty · 11/12/2011 18:10

Does your DH regularly do any on call work for his job? Sometimes if you're needed within say 30 mins you would not be allowed to live further away.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 11/12/2011 18:26

I thought the jsp said 10 miles. Will check.

Thing is he will be on training for a month in march, then again, then going to you know where in Sept

I have a 12 yr old DS and 5 yr old dd and want something stable.

planetpotty · 11/12/2011 20:10

Hmmm gotta be more than 10 loads at our place are located 19.5 miles away just as standard, that's just where the patch is now since the ones here were sold

Itsallgonetitsup · 12/12/2011 22:00

I am not sure as I know alot of allowances have been cut or reduced but I think you can claim home to duty of more than 10 miles from duty station.

It may be something worth looking into.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 12/12/2011 23:01

I don't really want to claim. Would rather be on base. His shifts will be 12 hours, so don't want travelling on top

planetpotty · 13/12/2011 10:00

Totally understand I would be exactly the same Sad make a list of all the reasons you need to be on camp - any medical reasons seem to work with DE - know youve said your not great at haggling with DE but i think it's time to get the JSP know it inside out and GET YOURSELF the house you want as DE will give you what's easiest for them.

Know this must be driving you nuts it's horrible not knowing where you're going sending a hug and a Smile.
