Purple ball

vintageteacups · 08/06/2011 23:22

Okay - can anyone who has already been to the Purple Ball, tell me what their dress was like?

I'm worried that my dress (whichever one fits me I choose) will be too ball gown-like and I'll stick out a bit too much. will try and find picture of similar style dress.

Heehe - DH was also dithering about buying me an Ipod Touch for my birthday (i've succombed to this new fangled way of listeing to music!) but he said they were only 15/10 quid cheaper so will get one back here.

I love your dress - very summery and pretty.

You do realise that I will now recognise you?!!!

notyummy · 10/06/2011 13:34

Well thats alright - no dark secrets really. I am likely to be more than slightly tipsy so feel free to say hello! Smile

vintageteacups · 10/06/2011 13:39

Are you staying in the Mess?

OP posts:
notyummy · 10/06/2011 13:46

Yes- no hassle with cabs! We have 4 friends coming with us as well and they have rooms so we can all get lost together. Well DH should be alright!

vintageteacups · 10/06/2011 14:03

I wish we had invited friends too - I will only know about 4 people there and they live there so they'll know loads of others. Oh well - he knows loads of people so I guess it'll be fine.

OP posts:
notyummy · 10/06/2011 18:00

Well feel free to locate me and have a chat - I wont know loads either! I will know a few people there because we went down for the Families Day and then a Dining In Night in Feb, plus I am ex-serving so I know some people on the course (not many though.)

vintageteacups · 20/06/2011 12:36

Well - my outfit is completed;

Midnight blue gown with silky silver grey pashmina with a splash of colour by way of a pretty, red satin clutch bag.

The lady who altered the dress last week said she didn't think it was too
out-y at all and showed me the most outragious prom dress you've ever seen and said she wore it to a ball the other week.

Thanks for your tips! Smile

OP posts:
notyummy · 20/06/2011 15:46

Ignore Mum/MIL - they are probably of the view that everything has to be toning/matching. Fair enough - but that was some time ago!!

I have dress and shoes sorted (with spare flats left in DHs room if feet start to get too sore!) Dont have a bag - eek! I have a few different cheap and cheerfuly clutches in the top of the wardrobe so will have to have a rummage. I have no pashmina or anything similar so will pray fervently for clement weather! Now wondering if a 3/4 day no-carb blitz is the way forward next week......

vintageteacups · 20/06/2011 17:56

Hi notyummy - I've been doing the 'not eating carbs thing since last Monday and actually, when I tried my dress on this afternoon, I've realised that some weight has gone from my bust (not that there was much bust to start with) and so now, the dress is slightly too loose.

Too late to get it altered again so hoping that by having a few extra carbs, I might go back up to pre-dress alteration size Wink. I really don't want to have to be finding safety pins at the last minute - which I what I usually end up doing!

Oh how I wish my thighs were as small as my bust!

I am mainly wearing a pashmina (not for cold) to cover up my upper arms Wink.

OP posts:
notyummy · 20/06/2011 18:14

Hmm, yes - my dress is strapless so don't want complete loss of boobs - disaster!! Although, I am similarly 'blessed' with compact boobs so dont really want to shrink them anyway. I did manage to lose a fair bit from my lower half last year via low carbing. Dont actually need to lose weight tbh, just that bloody stupid womanly thing of thinking 'just 5 lbs less and my arse would be like Megan Fox's' Hmm.

vintageteacups · 20/06/2011 18:18

Mine's gonna' need a lot more off than 5lbs to look like Megan Fox Grin

OP posts:
notyummy · 20/06/2011 18:26

Well, I would need a LOT of surgery in general TBH. But somehow I always think if I was just a little bit slimmer it would make all the difference.

notyummy · 29/06/2011 10:19

Weather forecast looking good for saturday! Low carb diet abandoned (cant do without salad and veg!!)

vintageteacups · 29/06/2011 13:02

Great about the weather - would be really not good with a downpour.

Still not sure about the outfit, having hair put up (messy side bun) late sat morning but about Woohoo's splash of bright red bag idea now Hmm.

OP posts:
vintageteacups · 29/06/2011 13:03

When you say low carb - surely no processed carbs is easier and have salad and veg as your fibrous good carbs? What have you been living on notyummy? Protein and water???Grin

OP posts:
notyummy · 29/06/2011 13:23

I have used the Dukan diet before and it really works, however it literally is just lean protein. (Cheicken/fish/steak/plain low fat yoghurt and milk.) As much of all of that as you want....but NOTHING ELSE. Oh - I forgot. One tablespoon of oat bran a day. Not sustainable for the long term - but you only supposed the hard core bit for a few days anyway. I generally dont eat bread/pasta/rice and only occasionally drink, so much of my diet is fine. I dont really need to lose weight - just had a 'I want to be a size 6' moment of madness. I think I will save the Dukan for when I come back from holiday and really do need to lose weight!

vintageteacups · 29/06/2011 13:45

hmm - might do that then before the summer hols. I honestly think loads of protein is the way to go and I guess kind of like the cave man diet.

Off to google the Dyukan diet Smile.

OP posts:
vintageteacups · 29/06/2011 13:46

Dukan, that is.

OP posts:
vintageteacups · 07/07/2011 22:21

mrssnaplegs - didn't see your friend. There were so many people there it was a bit of a feat finding anyone.

OP posts:
TalcAndTurnips · 07/07/2011 23:54

Did you enjoy it, though, vintage? I remember it being a really cracking ball with copious amounts of top-notch grub. (priorities and all that...)

And more importantly, did your dress fall down due to loss of norkage?

vintageteacups · 08/07/2011 08:26

Actually, although we enjoyed it, the food was very run of the mill and dh said it was the normal mess food they have every night. We also wish we had invited civvie friends because although there were a lot of people dh knew, I didn't know that many as I'm not living there but at £75 per person, was a bit steep to ask friends to come and expect them to pay.

I wore a different dress as my mum said the blue one made me look shorter and bigger Sad.

At one point - we were chatting in the almost dark to a group of people when I let my strawberry cup slip, pouring sticky strawberry juice all down the front of the dress! Another lady rubbed it in! But baby wipes to the rescue - it came off or I would have looked really stupid for the night.

wheresthepimms · 08/07/2011 10:23

from your pics you looked lovely vintage and I thought you looked like you had lost weight since the last time I saw you (not that I am saying anything nasty Grin) I will be on the grape diet ready for our ball in 2 weeks time now :)

vintageteacups · 08/07/2011 12:00

The grape diet will mean you're locked in the loo the whole time Wink
