hi, i was just wondering if anyone had used them to send parcels to the guys in theatre?i have looked at boxhappy but tfs seem to be better value for money. this is dh first deployment so i havent used anyone yet and just wondered if anyone had any comments on them, good or bad?

I have had problems with Box Happy's delivery times and wasn't impressed by their customer service so wouldn't use them again. Haven't tried tfs but, tbh, I find it much easier and cheaper to look at the contents of these companies' boxes for inspiration then make them up myself. For example the tfs brew box costs £23 but the contents are worth £14 max...get a shoe box and pack it yourself, post for free if under 2kgs and you've saved a fortune! And beware any boxes that contain chocolate items, they will not survive out there are the moment.

thanks penguin, we are posted to a massively touristy town which is heaving at the moment (wonder if any of my neighbours are on here!) and the nearest supermarkets are an hour away even in a car (i dont drive) so im just attempting to be nice without braving the town :o we had visitors at the weekend and did the touristy bit with them and it was such hard work, may well do it that way when the kids are back at school though!

thanks for your help though i do appreciate it, i need to look into it as im assuming theres a specific parcel size you cant exceed, i dont have any shoe boxes at the moment and unlikely to get any so will have to buy a box. normally i would definitely put it together myself, i really enjoy buying little bits for people like that anyway so i should probably just get on with it and fight the crowds! off to find out about parcel sizes......

I've got Pampers boxes and wipes boxes that fit the size guidelines, do you have any of those?

TBH I've been filling my boxes with peanuts and other snacky foods, a magazine a couple of DVDs that DH bought before he deployed and some pictures that the DDs have done. You don't need a big supermarket for those things just the local store and maybe Amazon. I might look at box happy for some more inspiriation though. the last parcel I sent took about a fortnight to get to DH and he's working in Bastion so it's not very speedy.

When my DH was there we used amazon, they will post to bfpo. I sent mine a digital photo frame (5 inch) then kept sending letters with a new sd card of the kids in. Half a cereal box works as well as a shoe box, once I even chopped a large box down into a small one to fit the guidelines. The other thing I did was out lots of shredded paper in as packing material, padded out a box and when he opened it it would go everywhere, but I am a bit mad like that Grin. If you are breaking the rules and sending any alcohol then wrap it in a nappy, if it breaks it will soak it up and the scent of the nappy puts any sniffer dogs off what is actually in it.
