Not lived there but with being in Salisbury, you are quite close-ish to the Devon coast and there are some awesome spots down there.

Sorry, not much help.

shoshe · 24/01/2011 22:24

DH is at Bulford and we live at Blandford, not sure where Harnham is tho?

eatyourveg · 25/01/2011 15:00

Harnham is (or rather was when I was there late 80s) considered a very good area. Unfortunately I haven't been back since I left in early 90s so I can't offer any advice other than south wilts grammar has always had a v good reputation.

We used to live in Salisbury and had our own house there. The MQ's were just over the road - and were nice.

Harnham is only a 12/15 minute walk into the City Centre through the Cathedral Close.

You are very lucky!

Marwell Zoo - fab.
Not far from Weymouth beach
Winchester.
Lovely Devizes not too far for pretty market town shopping Smile

I'm near Salisbury (actually work at Boscombe myself!). Lovely city - I don't know Harnham too well but I think it's very close to the city centre so you're really lucky - so much better than if you were put in MQs closer to Boscombe believe me!!

bopbop · 24/02/2011 21:45

We have been to look & the quarter looks old but nice. It still has an open fire! Its detached. Found schools. We were very pleased at how close it is to the centre. Some of the other guys in my hubbys section have been given quarters in Boscombe & have turned them down because they are so bad. One quarter has been turned down 7 times!! maybe DE will realise there is a problem with it lol. Just nervous now as our quarter is on its own, set in its own garden, surrounded by a high hedge, so not going to meet the neighbours!!

I am at Boscombe.....

Hate it hate it hate it...........

Too quiet for me tbh, some of the ladies at school are lovely but apart from that I wouldn't settle here and if I knew back then what I know now we wouldn't have accepted the posting :)

vintageteacups · 14/07/2011 22:03

So close to Dorset - lovely coastline and lots of lovely things to do. So close to the New Forest too.

Fettle · 20/07/2011 21:59

We're north of salisbury. Beautiful city, great shops, outstanding countryside around, our patch is pretty quiet though! Feeling happier by the day as i feel I'm meeting more people and getting into a routine. Been here almost 2 months now! But then I've come from a fabulous posting which I loved so wherever we moved to was going to find it hard to live up to it's predecessor!

Harnham seems a nice area - gym at hospital is very reasonable to join apparently! And very quiet!

Enjoy!
xxxx Smile

Fettle · 20/07/2011 22:01

Just seen you posted this back in january! So you'll know more about the area than I do now!!! Hope it all worked out well in the end! Smile

TinkyPixie · 17/09/2011 21:05

I'm also in Boscombe and possibly not feeling as strongly as Blurry29 but i'm also looking forward to leaving!
We were offered a MQ in harnham and turned it down because it was up 30 steps - no good with a buggy! Harnham looked great though otherwise. I hope you've found your way around?

bopbop · 26/09/2011 20:54

Hi, I'm guessing you were offered a house near me then. We have about 12 steps upto our front door, Harnham is a very step area. Its an absolutly fantastic area, we hardly ever use the car except for hubby to get to & from work. The cathedral is 10 mins walk away & there are some beautiful parks & walks. The kids love it. I can see the problem of a buggy & steps, my kids are 5 & 7 now so I'm out of that. Theres a lady behind me who bumps her buggy down those 30 steps, she could go around the back way but its quicker down thse steps!

I'm near Salisbury, DH is in Bulford.

I was brought up in quite a buzzing area so here seems quite quiet in retrospect! But I think it depends on how active you make your social life!

:)

TommeeTittee · 25/11/2011 16:58

does anyone get as homesick and lonely as I do? DC- 12 weeks and all I want to do is go back home to my family, I know it's so cruel to DH, but ive got myself in such a rut I can only think about myself!!

It's really difficult as DC is my first, I assume most first timers have lots of help from family and I feel as though I am muddling through...

Any support/tips from anyone :)
