they're ex army reservists or something like that aren't they? (looking at it thats not a great answer, sorry!)

goodmanners · 13/01/2011 20:55

oh i dunno Confused

LtEveDallas · 13/01/2011 21:01

...umm, because they are. Why?

LtEveDallas · 13/01/2011 21:10

Adjutant Generals Corps (Military Provost Guard Service). Must have at least 3 yrs svc, can join straight after leaving Reg svc, or can have a gap of up to 6 yrs. Join as Ptes, but senior ranks with 22 yrs service can join as Platoon commanders.

Same rules and regs as reg sldrs, but work strict shifts and do not have to deploy

perfect job for someone still useful after 22 yrs, but wants a stable home life.

(have just had a new platoon established after losing Gurkha gd force so I'm learning quickly!)

Like I said I had a bit of a discussion with someone and wondered why they were called "Soldiers"

LeonardNimoy · 14/01/2011 02:14

Because they are soldiers :-)

Saltire · 14/01/2011 07:33

Well they are soldiers who will never fight or go on deployment, or defend the country.
However, I just wanted a proper answer and LtEve has given me one, following my discussion with neighbour. So now I know why she thinks her DH is "far more superior" to mine Hmm

'far more superior' - whatever does she mean? I take it she's 'one of those' - does she wear he husbands rank as well? Grin

Dh is MPGS after 22 years service in the Signals, he has signed for 3 years, (will probably do longer) works 4days, 4 off, 4nights 4 off.

He had to sign on again and swear Allegiance again the same as he did the first time round.

They can deploy, if they volunteer.
