We are due to move to RAF Henlow in 4 weeks and there are no houses for us - if you are due to move out please book your march out now so i can i have house!!! (Refers to people with nice houses!)

After telling us for the last 2 months that everything would be ready for the required date they have waited until this morning to tell us there are actually no houses left!! 3 days after we were meant to arrive dh goes away on pre deployment so it looks like i will be moving by myself again!! (My 3 year old said he would help!)

Have you tried to ask for a quarter at DISC Chicksands? It's only a mile or so down the road.

pinkem · 29/07/2010 18:06

I will get dh to ask tomorrow, didn't think of that thanks jcscot.

We used to like at chicksands

We were due to move next month to Plymouth but there aren't any houses there either. We're in a massive que so have decided to stay put. Its only a 800 mile round trip for dh every weekend

Ps. Chicksands is lovely. We moved out almost 2 years ago and they were just starting to modernise all the houses.

After quoting some of JSP 464 they have magically found us a house although i will be moving by myself it is only 2 weeks after the original moving date.

SandyChick that sounds awful, just as they arrive home for the weekend they have to start ironing their kit ready to go again! Did you not want to apply for SSFA?

What's SSFA?? I'm not a very good navy wife

Substitute Service Family Accomodation.

If there are no quarters on your parent base they must give you the option of either; staying on your current base (aslong as there are enough houses), or you can rent privately in the local area of the new base.

If you chose the substitute housing you will pay the same as a quarter and they will pay the rest, the house must be the equivalent of the type of quarter you would be in.

Or as they put it:

If appropriate SFA is not available, the HIC is to give the applicant 2 choices:
a. To request allocation of SSFA. If the applicant requests SSFA, the HIC will issue a Non Availability Certificate (NAC) so that commercially rented accommodation may be provided by the MOD Contractor (See Chapter 6). Where precedent suggests that SFA would normally become available, the HIC may, with the approval of the applicant, issue a holding reply rather than an NAC. In the event that an NAC became necessary it should be issued no later than 51 days (for moves in UK) and 65 calendar days (for moves into UK from overseas) before the required date to ensure that there was sufficient time for the SSFA process to be administered.
b. To decline SSFA. If the applicant declines SSFA, they will remain on the Waiting List (see para 0513c) and be offered an appropriate SFA when one becomes available.

I've probably confused you more!!
