I was like . They were groups about married quarters, and the groups are ok, but the amount of women writing on a public wall and giving out their address. it was like (example)

"We are moving to Rosyth and going to live in number 24 big ship lollipop lane, what are the houses like please"

Do they not realise that any member of the public on facebook can read that?

It's frightening especially those moving to Northern Ireland that are doing it.

luciemule · 13/07/2010 22:52

so do you mean they're giving their full name as well?

Saltire · 14/07/2010 08:06

Lucie - yes for example (made up names again)

Betty Smith "We are moving to 23 big noisy jet road, Lossiemouth "

It's like you or I posting something on someone else's wall, the full name can be seen. plus the address.
. I can't believe that some people could be so,well, dim

hmm - they are .
I never have numbers/addresses/photos of the children or names of them on my facebook page.

So many forces friends have loads of pics of the whole family, publsh their address and when they're off on holiday to let the burglers know .

scaryteacher · 14/07/2010 17:17

They are mad - we have been warned (and we are in Brussels) not to draw attention to ourselves, especially when travelling.

jcscot · 14/07/2010 17:33

Absolutely barking, the lot of them. I can't see the page as I don't use facebook etc (because of the guidelines that state that you should be careful on such sites).

In fact, we're utter Luddites when it comes to things like that because we try to be rather PERSEC-conscious.

NI is always in the back of my mind, even now, but fgs, Afghanistan, Iraq etc should be giving them pause.

I think perhaps the powers that be should be alerted and get the page taken down.

There are also a couple of MQ threads on here, which struck me as daft, as nothing is ever completely secure....

I'm with jcscot - I have no truck with facebook.

Saltire · 17/07/2010 23:31

I stil remember when the torch and mirror for looking under cars was standard issue in all MQ's - in fact in our last one it still was.

I bloody hate it, makes me want to clear people off my friend list when I see some of the groups they're part of.

'I'm an army wife and proud of my soldier' kind of thing.
I'm an army wife and proud of my husband but I just don't see the need to parade it all over facebook for any nutjob to see!

Some people just live in their silly, naive little bubble don't they!?

luciemule · 30/09/2010 08:12

I have erased every single message/detail off FB that could lead anyone to me and my family. It amazes me that so many forces friends have pictures of their kids plastered all over it and details about their homes and where they're off to on holiday/arrival at airport etc.

I had an HM Forces group posting on my profile but deleted that too.

In Germany we had the mirror/torch thing and now we're living in our own civvie house, I'm always vigilent and if the car alarm goes off without any reason, I'm down on the ground, checking under the car. With the heightened state of alert at 'substantial' , it's good to be careful.

Saltire · 02/10/2010 13:26

lucie -even more so with the status thing that came out that allows people do see where you are when you log into facebook
