dinners to freeze for new mum?

My best mum friend is having her second soon. I want to make a week's worth of meals to freeze for her, but am having a bit of a brainfart as to what to cook that freezes well.

Lasagne?
Stew? (so unseasonable!)

erm...?

shepherds/cottage pie
curry
fish pie

or why not have a look at the cook website and make your own version of the things they sell?

excellent use of the word 'brainfart

I think cook do vouchers if you don't get a whole weeks worth in.

How about some prepped meals for her DC1 as well (fish pie and cottage pie are always a favourite)

When is she due? It's a brilliant idea, I had DS2 4 weeks ago and would have loved it if someone had done something as thoughful for me. Although in this weather the kind of one-pot meals you're talking about aren't the kind of thing I personally would want to eat! Maybe do one mince-based dish, like a chilli or lasagne, and then perhaps a couple of chicken dishes - chicken in a white wine sauce that she can just heat up with some baby new potatoes or a salad, and a chicken casserole with spring greens. A mild prawn curry perhaps? Not sure if it's feasible but could you perhaps prep the ingredients for a stir fry and then freeze?

i froze a lot of meals ahead before having ds and it was a bit hit and miss - the ones i was glad to find were anything involving carbs that you could eat with one hand (fish pie in particular). things like stirfries i just didnt want. avoid anything with chilli probably if she's bfeeding.
oh and the thing i most appreciated - puddings. a couple of fruit crumbles or stodgy comfort puddings were a bloody godsend.

thanks for all the feedback... Feeling a bit more inspired! Stuff for DS1 & puddings is also a great idea.

She is due in early September, so you might be right about one-pot stews! Although who knows what the weather will be doing of course... Thanks for the reminder about eating one handed too...

Echo anything that she can eat 1-handed, probably in a bowl.

What a lovely thought for someone.

chicken in a cream and tarragon sauce

tummytickler · 15/08/2010 16:24

What a wonderful idea - I wish somebody had done this for me!
Nothing much to add, but maybe a nice soup or two?
