Doesn't like cows milk!

Hoorah! We thought - DD is a year old, and we can ditch formula! Except she absolutely won't drink cows milk - from a cup OR bottle... She pulls a face, and blows raspberries and throws the cup away

She has two milk drinks a day (breakfast and mid afternoon) out of a cup, and a bedtime bottle. She loves her formula (C&G Step Up milk, which incidently was the only milk she would drink from a bottle when I moved on from breastfeeding at 6 months...)

Erm? Anyone had the same thing they could affer advice on?

My children (except ds no.3) did not like milk so they didn't get any. They ate other dairy produce - yogurts, cheese, milk puddings so I just didn't bother giving them milk to drink. It really isn't a necessity, so don't worry.

snickers, have you tried mixing some cows milk with formula, say 1 oz cows milk, 7 oz formula, gradually increasing the cows milk and decreasing the formula over a few days? This is what we did with DS1 and he barely noticed. HTH.

Our ds1 didn't like cow's milk initially but I used to make a nutritious milkshake in the morning by whizzing it up with a banana - really tasty. Did it for about 2 to 3 months and then he gradually moved over to just milk. I also echo mears - a variety of dairt products is vital at this stage. (I grew up on a dairy farm and really hate raw milk - maybe we had too much as children)

My DD stopped drinking all types of milk at 7 months - health visitor said that as long as she ate yogurt n cheese was not such a big deal and she has now started drinking milk again recently.

I made sure that she had about 4 yogurts a day (unsweetened fruit ones) and cheese and got her to start drinking tea which I put milk in - now first thing she says in the morning is - Wheres my tea???

Boe, tea isn't really recommended for children under 7 as the tannins interfere with iron absorption. Then again, I read somewhere that milk interferes with iron absorption as well!

DS didn't like milk at first, but I was very careful to distinguish it from the breast - it is a snack, which is offered at different times from his regular BF. And I gave him a special cup to drink it out of, and said "Yum yum" whenever he had it. At first he spat it on the floor (charming), but now he will drink about half a cup at a time - which is better than nothing!

Oh dear - thought it was the best thing - at least she would be getting a fair quota of dairy then - don't think Iron absorption is a problem with her - she eats bags of raw baby spinach sometimes - the huge sainsburys ones and we have fights to stop her - she is completely weird in some respects - found her in the garden the other day with a cucumber she had taken a bit out to the rabbit came back to get the other bit for herself and sat there and ate it (all of it) whilst chatting to chooch and telling him to eat up his cucmber like she was - she is a loon!!!

Have to go now but would love to stay and chat - have a great weekend all - can't wait till I get laptop at home )

Also for calcium how about that water that has calcium in it - a whole bottle = 1 glass of milk. Lottie wasn't a huge fan of milk but i peservered and now she's into it again. I give her that Guernsey/Jersey cows milk, sometimes I give her that soya/dairy free milk for a change/ and am just about to start mixing milk with yoghurts for a yop-like drink. Also i give her that water with added calcium

Boe, if she is reluctant to give up her tea you could switch to redbush tea, a variety that is naturally caffeine-free and much lower in tannin than ordinary tea. It is also slightly maltier and sweeter than ordinary tea. I got into it during my pregnancy and the brand I drink has retro packaging with a little girl being served her morning tea in the nursery. Although he is not drinking mugs of it, ds likes the taste a lot.
