Help - food which is easy to swallow

Hi

My dd was born with a condition that makes it difficult to swallow. She has had mainly pureed food, but we have been introducing pastas etc. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on finger food that would slide down quite easy? Or other foods we could try as I'm running outof ideas? I have tried just mashing foods but this leads to food getting stuck and a mad phone call for an ambulance, so I am loosing confidence! She is 20 months now and know she's coming up to a fussy stage! Thanks for your help x

I have a gastric band and when it is tight tend to eat "slidy foods" that slip through the band.

Anything with plenty of fat.
Creamy stuff like trifles.
Mash with lots of Gravy/soup.
Processed stuff like biscuits, Skips crisps, ready brek

Overcook the veg and melt butter on it, like mashed carrots and sweet potato.

Its far from ideal, but for kids under 12 years old fat isnt too unhealthy SO I WAS TOLD BUT DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

Might be different for your daughter`s condition, but my cousin had throat cancer and has little saliva now and we often sit and chat about slidy foods and he has similar ones ot me.

Hope it helps.

If make a shepherds pie, use Lamb mince rather than beef, slides down easier and you might want to blend the mince. make the mash with plenty of fat like butter and milk and use plenty of Gravy.

Thank you for the replies, will give them a try. Onedge, that is a great idea- I'm willing to try anything at this stage! Really worried that if I don't introduce some lumps at this stage that dd will never want to eat any. DD had a gap in her oesophagus at birth, it has been repaired but all muscles are out of sync which leads to food getting stuck - v scary! Most fruits are out unless puree.

Thanks again, and any more suggestions welcome!
