As title says its our dd's naming day at the weekend and i am shopping for food today. There will be about 40 guests but about 10 of those are children. Struggling to decide how much to make so suggestions appreciated!

I'm serving;

sandwiches (mixture of white, wholemeal and granary) with maturecheddar (some with pickle), roast ham (some with mustard), ans smoked salmon.

Plain posh crisps

Quiche

Porkpie

chutneys

scones with jam and clotted cream

lemon drizzle cake

chocolate cake

victoria sponge

strawberries and cream

tea/coffee

traditional lemonade

pink fizz (only half drinking due to driving i expect)

what do you think?

Plushow much can i do the day before and what do i have to do on the morning? I'm limited on time as ceremony is at 12 but need to decorate the hall.

Thanks

I reckon that you need enough cake for 1.5 times the number of guests @ 1 slice each (split equally between your three different recipes), a scone each, strawberries & cream for all the kids and half the adults, 2 sandwiches each and a slice of pork pie each.

If you run out after that lot, you have greedy friends. You can always fill up the kids on crisps.

Men will eat more sandwiches and pork pies I think, maybe 4 sandwiches each.

Are you making the cakes or buying in? If making, all can be done the day before. Sandwiches on the morning and then cover in clingfilm and refrigerate.

I'd also hull and wash the strawbs the night before and keep in the fridge in a ziplock bag. Also grate the cheese and keep in the same way ( if you are grating it that is ).
Get a production line going in the morning with one buttering, one filling and one slicing and arranging on plate, if you can get help. My 6yo is a very capable butterer.
