How on earth do I get this burnt on goo off my frying pan?

DH made me a very lovely supper tonight involving marninating chicken is some sort of marmalade and soy suace thing. Said marmalade chicken then got pan fried. Very tasty, but a very sad looking frying pan. Sticky goo well and truly burnt on. I can't scrub it to death as it's non stick. I've tried soaking it, heating water in the pan, but so far no luck, still goo covered. Any one got any bright ideas? Or shall I give up and confine the frying pan to the bin .....

get some cheap cola , and pour it in the pan ...heat it gently until it boils thentake it off the heat and leave it too cool overnight..
give it a good soak in the morning for at least an hour then wash it as normal. should shift the burnt goo.
repeat if needed.

or simmer washing powder in it - or bicarb.

Or salt.

Soak repeatedly in warm soapy water and attack with a green plastic 'scritcher'.... Heat should soften the burnt sugar enough to remove a bit at a time. A plastic pan-scrub shouldn't damage the non-stick coating.

I use astonish household paste for burnt on food along with a spontex scourer suitable for non-stick pans:

astonish paste - although I get mine from semi-chem for about £1

spontex scourer - I get mine in the supermarket

Try washing soda too, if none of the above suggestions work! Heat a solution of it in the pan.

shelscrape · 16/06/2010 18:31

Thanks all, tried the repeated soaking in warm soaking water and lots of scrubbing with non stick scourer thing .... no good. Now trying soaking with bicarb and warm water, we waitand see if it works!

Squirt some washing up liquid onto it then immerse it in hot water and scrub it with a scourer, when clean put on the side to drain and then dry with a tea-towel. Then put it in the cupboard ready for next time.
I am a genius.

Oh, I have actually just re-read your post and apparantly my method has been tried and does not work.
Apologies, I am a complete buffoon and should be shot.
Sounds like you have BURNT it.
Buy a new one.
Ha ha, genius again.

Washing powder in cold water.... soak over night and then bring slowly to the boil.

If really stuck Hydrogen Peroxide.... buy some really cheap blond hair dye and use the powdered section disolved in a little water. We used to use it in the lab to disolve organic matter out of lake samples works a treat but use with care as it may damage the non stick surface.

Lynli · 16/06/2010 18:57

dishwasher powder and boil on stove leave to cool.

shelscrape · 16/06/2010 20:39

Not looking good folks ... DH has well and truly burnt the ruddy marmalade on .... one last try with bicarb, if it fails I see another visit to JOhn Lewis coming

Washing soda in a strong hot solution, overnight. Look on the packet, this is one of the top uses of this stuff.

(Washing soda is NOT caustic soda, it will not dissolve you into goo)

the astonish paste is really good so I would see if you can find it (or an equivalent) in your local shops. It has rescued the grill pan many times
