it's a fab book. when we moved house and i met our new neighbours i knew i was going to like them when i spotted that book in the kitchen. she'd been bought it by her mum to take away to college (then we found out we both went to the same uni). how many birthday's did you get the chocolate button clock cake??

have just been and bought myself a second hand copy from amazon as my mum won't give up her's

What was the name of that one mentioned earlier with the halved boiled eggs and the pink sauce? I used to like that.

we used to serve for starter

prawn cocktail with tommy and salad cream mixted as the pink sauce

pate with tomatos sliced and a little lettece and white bread cut in to triangles toasted and placed on the side -cover with lots of cress

mushroom soup made with powder and water and called homemade as it was made on the premisses

black forest gataux for pudding or sherry trifle

Oh that Hamlyn Mary Berry book must have been one of the only ones available or something! My mum had it too - but didn't do much out of it very often. I'm pretty sure her sweet'n'sour pork recipe came from it though...

I have an updated Mary Berry book but not that one.
