BBQ Sauce.. How do you make yours??

My DP, the DC and I have been testing out shop bought BBQ sauces recently in preperation for our first full family (his & mine) garden get-together in the summer. I foolishly said that am sure that I could create a home-made one that was nicer than what we have been finding from a bottle .

Have no idea where to even begin with it .

Any hints, tips, advice, recipes would be brilliant.

Thanks all

I usually just chuck in whatever I've got in the cupboard at the time!
Basically I use tomato ketchup/puree, honey , soy sauce, any spices if you want it a bit firey, sherry or wite wine, mustard, dried herbs.
The mix is fairly random and may contain all or only some of the ingredients, whatever I have at the time!

I haven't tried. this as I'm veggie but DH says its really nice
Makes 450ml
Prep time 10 mins
Cook time 20-25 mins

1tbsp olive oil,
1 finely chopped onion
400g tin chopped tomatoes
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
85g brown sugar
3 tbsp malt vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp tomato puree

Heat oil in pan and add onion.
Cook over a gentle heat 4-5 mins untill softened.
Add remaining ingredients, season and mix. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer 20-30- mins until thickened.
For a smooth sauce whizz up in a blender.

I'll tell you this one because it made me laugh. The instructions were.....

"Heat up tomato ketchup, brown sugar and HP sauce in a pan with some finely chopped onion and crushed garlic. You know when it's ready because if you put your face over it, it makes your eyes water"
