Help - how do you make these so they actually stick together?

Please if anyone has ingredients/proportions that work can you post it? My ds wants to make them for his pre-school friends for his birthday.

Melt chocolate

Pour in rice crispies and stir.

Keep adding rice crispies until all covered.

Put in bun cases.

Eat.

But do they stick together?

I made them last week and it was just a paper case full of separate rice krispies covered in choc mix. (actually choc, butter, syrup and cocoa)

Hence asking for specific proportions!

I use the recipe out of Annabel Karmel cook book and they stick together really well. Recipe is-
3 x 65g Mars Bars
90g butter
75g Rice Crispies

Grease 28 x 18cm shallow tin. Melt Mar Bars and butter in a saucepan. Stir in Rice crispies. Press into a tin and set aside in fridge to set for an hour.

She also says that once set put a topping of melted plain chocolate (200g) combined with melted butter (25g) and leave to set again. With a sharp knife, cut into 20 bars.

This is my favourite rice crispy recipe. I have some in the fridge at the moment with a white chocolate topping and sprinkled with dark chocolate chips. Off to get one now!

YUM! That sounds nice!
But think it might be too sweet/rich for pre-school children? (Will make it for myself!)

Any other recipes out there please?

Leave out the butter, syrup and cocoa then. Make sure you use enough chocolate to hold it all together- not just "coat" them, cover generously. Set in fridge.

I've never done anything but melt chocolate, add krispies, put in cases, leave to set.

usualsuspect · 04/06/2010 21:32

You have to use loads and loads of chocolate

JackBauer · 04/06/2010 21:33

Just plain melted chocolate works for us, and then put them in the fridge to set.

homicidalmummy · 04/06/2010 21:39

Sometimes add a wee bit of golden syrup if I'm having them. Otherwise just lots of melted (cooking) chocolate and rice crispies.
I find mars bars and other sweet kind of chocolate is rubbish melted for this so need to use cooking chocolate- 1 whole bar of it.

wukter · 04/06/2010 21:53

How come mine are soggy not crispy?
I just melt choc, stir in crispies, leave in fridge.

JackBauer · 04/06/2010 21:54

wukter, is your chocolate too hot. Don't pur it over the crispies, just pour them in and stir

wukter · 04/06/2010 22:06

Thanks Jack will try it that way next.

DotAlice · 05/06/2010 15:36

Does it make a difference which brand of rice krispies is used? Also, salted or unsalted butter?

Thanks.

Katymac · 05/06/2010 15:51

Bag of large marshmallows
4oz butter
1 tablespoon cocoa

Melt the butter & marshmallows - add cocoa

stir in krispies

Put in a baking tray leave to set - cut to size

traumaqueen · 05/06/2010 16:17

Dd's foolproof recipe

60g butter
3 tbsp golden syrup
100g chocolate
90g rice krispies

Works for us

Iloveautumn · 06/06/2010 18:57

Thanks all!
Will try with just choc - but will have to be left over Easter eggs as no cooking chocolate (plus, isn't cooking chocolate reallyh and truly horrible?!)

I thought that the syrup would help stick together - hmm may try traumaqueen recipe instead - oh decisions decisions!

Thanks anyway!
