spam me

I am short of ideas and motivation. Everytime I suggest things along the lines of butternut squash risotto, or vegetable curry or something, my entire family turn their nose up (they're very english ).
My mum is doing a chicken dish, sis is doing pizzas. I am clueless. Help !
We go 2am sat morning...

Chilli?
BBQ - actually this is the way to go. Buy a partysized disposable BBQ and do lots of meat. That'll keep the Neanderthals Brits happy.

Go to the local market and just see what fantastic produce is on offer - at this time of year all I want to eat is the lovely salad, with asparagus (if you get the purple ones you have to peel them), grilled courgettes and possibly breaded and fried courgette flowers, along with some nice bread and a fantastic cheese board.

If they need to have some meat maybe do some fish or something similarly easy?

Yep BBQ. Pref involving some big prawns as well as meat. Load of sald and french bread. job done. You don't want to be faffing about making risotto.

Or go to nice local restaurant! Several times! Why go to France if not to eat out!

lasagne and salad
roast whole chicken with baked in the oven chips and salad
cold ham, baked potatoe and salad

Yup - if the weather's good, BBQ. If it isn't, eat out. I bet there's a little place nearby that might not be pretty, but will serve good food, inexpensively.

Would be criminal IMO to not take advantage of the local market. If the nearest one is on a Saturday and your day is a Friday, there'll be another one in a village nearby. Tomatoes, courgettes, basil - all that stuff will be amazing.

(I take it puffy is in France already though!)

Oh God and the strawberries. The old varieties are heavenly.

Moules! Cooked in White wine, olive oil and garlic. So simple served with wine and bread.

Rollmops · 09/06/2010 13:53

What ib said. I'd only eat fresh stuff from markets, fab sausages, breads, vegetables, wine....

Romilly70 · 09/06/2010 17:39

you can buy already prepared duck (confit de canard) in tins. Just microwave it and serve with frites and green beans fried with butter and garlic - very french

bridewolf · 09/06/2010 17:44

i would get some decent chicken and bake slowly in oven with lots of whole garlic cloves, and extra virgin olive oil......and serve with a crisp green salad, and warm french bread............yummy!

how about a stew of beans, pork, sausage etc? cassulet? (sp? sorry!)
