feeding schedule for 1 year old

i would be interested to know any feeding schedules for 1 year old. You go along merrily for a couple of months and then you hit another problem - now dd is getting a bit funny with food!
her schedule is:

7am wakes
7:15ish milk (100-150ml)
8-8:15ish breakfast porridge or 1 weetabix and sometimes slice of toast
11:45 - 12:00 lunch - jar of food (which she doesn't always eat now and pud usually fromage frais or yogurt which she nearly always eats
12:30 - 1:00 afternoon nap up to 2.5 hours
3:00 snack usually teacake or hot x bun
5.30/5:45 dinner home made soup/dinner or jar food and pud.
6:30 bath
7:00 milk and bed

The problem is she has started waking (not every night) and will not settle without a bottle. She seems genuinely hungry as she drains the bottle and doesn't want the bottle taken out of her mouth!
she is walking great guns now so maybe that could be the problem - using up a lot more energy or maybe my timings are off and that is why she is not eating enough or maybe a growth spurt - any ideas??????

Jars have less calories than homemade food and far less protein - ditch the jars. They normally like finger food and food you can fork at this age or sandwiches not mush.

The waking can be due to all sorts of problems and is unlikely to be hunger.

There doesn't seem much fruit in the schedule but maybe you've left it out.

Mine all have 3 meals a day at this age and two snacks at least - remember kids need high calorie full fat foods and they have tiny tummies. DS had no milk at this age not even cows milk and didn't wake up at night.

I agree with everything Helmethead said. Try ramping up the calories and nutrition of her food in the day - more home made food, more energy dense snacks, more fruit snacks. If all that fails, then what about a bowl of cereal at bed time?

crawley · 27/05/2010 13:14

she really isn't that much into fruit at all i have tried so many times. I would say that the majority of foods she eats is home made and not jars - I don't know why I put down jar of food as she probably has 2 in a week!
The reason why I think its hunger is because I am sure she is not eating enough during the day. She has always been a good sleeper and has slept through without milk from 15 weeks. This problem has only really started since she has started walking and it is intermittent. Also you would think that having that milk in the night would curb her appetite for breakfast but it doesn't! She does do finger food (loves garlic bread!)and eats loads at nursery.

also just realised that on Monday night she had her dinner about 6:15 and night bottle about an hour later and she didn't wake up. maybe my timings are off and she just needs to eat dinner a bit later

I seem to be feeding my 1 yo constantly, but I think he basically eats little and often, which seems to work for him - he's on the verge of walking (lots of cruising and standing) so he's very active/busy but generally sleeps through unless he's teething/unwell. This is broadly the schedule he's on:

7.30 to 8am - cereal with cow's milk
10am - snack, maybe toast, maybe banana
11.30-12pm - lunch - usually what we had the night before, reheated , followed by a yogurt
12pm-ish - nap
3pm - snack, maybe fruit, raisins
4.30-5pm - a light tea e.g. sandwich, scrambled egg, eggy bread
5.30ish - bath
6.30ish - rice krispies with milk
7pm - cup of milk at bedtime

He doesn't really drink much milk (has never seemed that keen), only his cup at bedtime so I try to make sure his meals have a good deal of calcium and iron in.

Hope this helps (and other MN'ers aren't looking at DS's schedule in horror because it does look like an awful lot now it's written down )

chocolatechomper thanks for the eggy bread idea!!
I think that there is something in the little and often. She woke later this morning so combined her weetabix and morning milk (she didn't drink much of the milk but ate all the cereal). I think that sometimes I give her possibly too large a bowl of cereal plus a snack mid morning which is sometimes probably too near her lunch. This morning she had breakfast at 8 and snack (banana)before 10 and lunch at 12 - fish pie with fromage frais for pud. She was really tired and went down for nap at half 12 so we will see what the rest of the day brings. She does have those molars coming through also at the moment though for the last week or so they don't seem to be causing too much of a problem. If she wakes at night due to teeth she usually has her hands stuffed in her mouth and just cries and cries but she hasn't been doing that.

I think there could be room for more filling snacks in her day? DS2 is 13m and roughly has the following:

7am BF
8am breakfast - porridge, toast and sometimes cereal
10am snack - fruit/cheese/biscuit etc
11.30am lunch - sandwiches, yoghurt & fruit
2pm (after nap) snack - fruit/cheese/breadsticks
3.30pm another snack
5pm tea - pasta/fishcakes/risotto type stuff
6pm light snack
7pm BF

So he rarely goes more than 90 mins without feeding his face! No milk at night since 7mo.

crawley · 27/05/2010 13:55

MegBusset thanks for tips. I think that once before the snacks seemed to be getting in the way of the food and sometimes its just hard knowing what to give them! I think that the mornings are ok but the afternoons are the problem. she does her I am hungry face and I give her snacks and should then probably push the meal time to later - going to try that tonight

These are really useful thank you. We have just started giving DD a light supper before bed as she won't drink milk in any form any more! It seems to settle her pretty well:

6.30am - ready brek / weetabix + fruit
8am - toast
10am - fruit or cheese
11.45 - lunch (main meal)
2.30pm - fruit or cheese
5pm - dinner (main meal + yogurt ice cream or custard + fruit)
7pm - crumpet and cup of milk (rarely even has 1 sip but I like to offer!

June2009 · 27/05/2010 22:46

dd is 11 mo and her timetable is a lot like yours, it looks like she drinks more milk though. She sleeps through.

Rough schedule:
6:00 milk (5oz)
9:00 breakfast porridge/toast
10:30 sometimes more milk 3oz, fruit.
12:00 lunch
2:30pm milk (2 or 3 oz) and snack (fruit)
5:30pm dinner
7pm milk (4oz) & bed

She does go through phases where she wakes up at night and will have some water or some milk.(growth spurt?).

debka · 28/05/2010 07:00

DD is 14mo and seems to eat like a sparrow compared to some others here...
7am raisins and water (replaced BF)
8am weetabix or raisin wheats and fruit
10.30 banana
2.00 bread and cheese or soup and fruit
6.00 family dinner, fruit, yoghurt
She always sleeps through.
