OK I have to go shopping tomorrow, at best I'll have £15 to spend, at worst £5.

The raw ingredients I already have are

Green Lentils
Kidney Beans
Cannellini Beans
Butter Beans
Barley
Lasagne Sheets
Rice
4 Eggs
Mushrooms (about a handful)
1 White Cabbage
1 Large Carrot
Garlic (loads)
1 small tin of sweetcorn
Frozen sweetcorn
Shortcrust Pastry

DH and the boys eat quite a fair amount at meal times, so I need to make big(ish) quantities of food. What can I make with the above ingredients - and what cheap stuff (preferably a little bit of meat even if it's only chopped cooked ham) would I need to buy to make it

Thanks

buy onions, frozen peas and smoked mackerel and asuming you've got a few curry spices handy you can make kedgeree. (in my head because we had it tonight yummy yummy) You need to put onions on your list for sure though

sausage casserole is sausages with mushrooms, pepper, onion, tinned tomatoes, and baked beans (optional) serve with jackets or mash.

i would buy something like value pasta as a huge bag of it is only about 20p and value tinned tomatoes, value spaghetti, as this is a cheap and quick easy lunch for the kids. spaghetti on toast (even nicer with homemade bread)

cheap meat beef is usually cheapest and if on a budget i get it from the butcher counter and just get a small amoutn and bulk it out with veg and gravy for stew/hotpot (just stew but sliced potatoes on top instead of chopped inside)

Def. buy more eggs - some are very cheap and good protein. how about making pancakes and filling them with diff beans/veg, or just cheese sauce and ham. Also good for cheapish puddings - pancakes and stewed apple/other fruit.
I'd buy all your fruit and veg from a local greengrocer, and if you can face it, frozen mince as it is a load cheaper than fresh. good luck!

Another good one for using up bits is a sort of quiche without the patry.

butter a round deepish dish
whisk up 6-9 eggs
add a bit of milk, salt pepper
pour in dish, bung in what you've got, I some times fry up bacon, tin toms, cheese sweetcorn, peppers, whatever you fancy really.
pop it in the oven for about 20-30 mins, until its risen and golden. My fave is cheddar and bacon bits.

If you want to use up the barley it is quite nice cooked in a sort of creamy risotto style. Fry onions, mushrooms, celery if you have it, then add barley and stock. Simmer until tender then add cornflour and milk and stir until thickened. Can flash under the grill with tomato slices or a bit of grated cheese to brown - very nice served with sweetcorn and peas.
