HELP! Left slow cooker on high - do I need to rush home or will it be ok?

I put the slow cooker on high this morning, intending to turn to low before I went to work.

Forgot.

What will happen if my spag bol is on high until I get home from work this evening? Do I need to rush home instead of having lunch?

How many hours would that be? Was it quite liquidy?Generally I would do things for 8 hours on low, 4 on high.

How long would it take you to get home, is it just round the corner?

I do realise I am just adding to your list of questions rather than actually helping, btw.

It'll have been on for more than 8 hours. But will is just sit there? Or will it go horrid? I have no idea how hot the 'high' setting is.

25 min round trip I reckon.

I do think 8 hours on high is a long time. I can't see it catching alight or anyhtign like that, it might just go very watery? For the sake of 25 minutes I probably would, to be honest.

Either that or leave it as an experiement to help future MNers with the same dilemma!

Have you tried searching for 'slow cooker left on high' to see if anyhtign comes up?

i'm fairly sure it will be fine. fairly as in if i were you i wouldn't rush home to switch it down at worst i expect it will be maybe a litte bit dryer than you were planning. but not burnt or solid or anything icksome like that

I would think it will be an inedible mush by the time you get home, or cooked so much it's just a big lump!

Slow cookers don't set on fire. Ever. Don't worry about that.

In that case I will leave it, and the wrost that will happen is I have no dinner and a messy pan to clean.

I did manage to burn a casserole left on all day in the slow cooker on high so afraid your spag bol may go teh same way. I was really surprised as I thought it woudl be fine.

I would leave it. I think that the worst that has happened to me is it burns round the edge.

If it is quite liquid it should be fine. I had the problem with a sausage cass which had baked beans in it.

I've done simelar - it was good for the dog!

The mince and onions turned to mush and was very dry - yuk, id turn it down if yoy could.

Ok, fine, did it. Decided the horror of cleaning a burnt-on pot outweighed the fun of doing it as an 'experiment' for MN
