Which healthy yoghurt for children?

I would like my kids (4 and 1) to eat a yoghurt each day as neither of them has other dairy. I want it to be healthy, and definately organic, but am struggling a bit as to which one to get. We were buying the organic fruit tumble ones (struggling to think of the brand though I think it might be yoplait) which both kids liked, but they have a lot of sugar in. I tried the Rachel's brand ones, but they are so runny you can practically drink them. I thought I had cracked it recently when i found some by Mums4 which are only organic yoghurt with pureed fruit in. But they are not sweet enough and both kids are struggling with them (I perservered for 2 weeks). They are also relly hard to come by loaclly.

My criteria is that it has to be organic. Ds1 will not eat any with bits in. Preferably not too runny. And as little sugar as possible. Any ideas??? (I did try using plain big pots and mixing with pureed fruit pots. Ds2 was fine, but ds1 was not having it.)

I buy the yeo valley childrens ones, however think this may be what you mean about fruit tumble ones. I prefer Rachels childrens with no added sugar but it's hard to get them round here. Tried buying organic natural yog and pureeing my own fruit as well but was not a hit here either! Other than the Rachels and mums4 I am yet to find a no added sugar yoghurt.

That's funny, I don't find the Rachel's yoghurt too runny - DD loves it, especially the rhubarb one. And the Yeo Valley is pretty good too.

Yeo Valley! Thats the one that is fruit tumble. DO you not think they have a lot of sugar in them? I have not tried the Rachels' ones for a while. I remember them being such a mess of runniness. Perhaps I will give them another go. One success we have had with plain yoghurt is making fruit smoothies with it. However, I can't do this everyday and need some in pots for convenience.

I just buy adult organic yogurts

and also frubes (not organic and some sugar / but so much more fun sometimes especially when frozen)

Have just had a look at the fruit tumbles and quite scarily there is twice the sugar in them than in rachels wholemilk yogurts (the really big pots).

Strangely though they have exactly the same amount of sugar as the little rachels (they also have twice the amount of the adult version), must be something to do with the amount of added fruit and natural sugars?

Hmmm... I've only got Yeo Valley and Rachels Forbidden Fruit (creamier than the normal Rachels one) in the fridge at the mo, they're both 12-14% carb (I think almost all of that is sugar) so yeah, not exactly low sugar.
Just found all the nutrition info on the Rachel's website here The low fat ones are much lower in sugar.

I read in some Observer survey that one of the lowest sugar fromage frais was M5S Fimble ones. Not sure if that would do instead of yoghurt

the yeo valley fruit tumble ones have a lot less sugar in than other 'childrens' yoghurts you get in supermarkets, and they also dont conatin so much (any!) crap

done forget when it says carbogyrate which Sugars, fruit has sugar in it as well!

i try my best to feed my charges mainly organic food, and we always have a yogurt after lunch...

the only organic ones i have found are Rachels kids ones.... BIG thumbs up for these, (no added sugar but use fruit concentrate instead)

Peteit filoux USED to do organic yoghurt but seem to have stopped

failing that buy natural yoghurt / greek yoghurt and add fruit puree to it (same as mums4) except you do it yourself so cheeper

I can't use the adult versions of the fruit yoghurts as they always have bits and ds1 will just not eat them. I looked at the Rachel's site and had forgotten that their kids ones have no sugar. The problem with the Mums4 ones is that the fruit puree just does not make it sweet enough. However, the Rachels ones use fruit juice as well. I may have to put up with the runniness to have a healthier yoghurt. Now, if only I could remember where I bought them from!

I think if they're wholemilk they're going to have the same amount of fat. The sugar thing just depends on whether it's added sugar or fruit sugar. Little rachels has no added sugar but the same total sugar content as yeo valley fruit tumbles, presumably because they have more added fruit and fruit juice.

I buy organic natural yogurt - usually Rachel's or Yeo Valley, the plain one. And jus it up w/cut up fruits, raisins, homemade jam, etc.

I buy big tubs of Yeo valley (both plain and flavoured) or the full fat adult ones, think they are called summer smoothies?? Don't know about the sugar content, will compare them next time. Have also bought Rachels.

Lakeland sell small pots, you could transfer the big pot into a few of these so you always have smaller ones for convenience (if that makes sense?)

ATM Im buying small pots of plain yog and adding some blackberries from the garden and a pinch of sugar. Its been a huge hit with dd who went off yogurt about 3 mnths ago but now loves it again.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I went out today and bought some of the little rachels ones. Tried them tonight with the kids and they liked them. They are way thicker than they used to be so that was fine. I also found some 4 packs of INnocent smoothies for kids. These have no yoghurt in, but would also be a nice dessert. We do make our own smooothies, but not all the time. They had two flavours so I got both to try. Actually, we will be at Fruitstock (Innocent music festival) this weekend in Regents Park and I think I saw something on their website about a tasting area for kids. Hopefully we may get some freebies!

I might try dd with greek yoghurt & fruit puree again but it didn't go down well last time I tried.
