Gas BBQ

Just got a new gas bbq (previously had other-light-a-fire type). Lovin it as it's so quick and easy. But how do you clean yours? According to DH, it doesn't need cleaned, just scrape the grid after it warms up... is this right? (I hope so!-low maintenance!) If so, what do you use to scrape it and where can I buy it? Tia.

We got one last summer. Dh says the same as yours.

I got a bbq cleaning wire brush thing in b&q though, and give the wire tray a quick scrub with that after use.

We have a gas BBQ that my dw gave me about 5 years ago. I only give it a rough scrape just before use each time through the summer, except right at the end of the year (it actually usually becomes the first BBQ of the new season). I give the cast iron grill plates a really good clean-down and it is a filthy job. I scrape the top, the bottom, in each gap between the bars of the grill plates etc with a knife. My hands are black, I usually have to change water 4 or 5 times, probably have to throw away the towel I use for drying them etc. I then brush olive oil on them after cleaning, and just befote first use.

It is still worth it though, even after the two hours spent cleaning the damn things, because it is just so easy for the rest of the year.

The Mr Muscle oven cleaning bags are good for the plates too at the end of the season

Leave the burners on for a while after you've finished cooking to burn off residual food - pour a beer over it (really) to loosen the burnt bits, and give a scrub with a wire brush or a piece of scrunched up tin foil. I'm an Aussie, so I have some experience in this area . Oh, and if you haven't used it in a while it doesn't hurt to give it a good rub down with an antibacterial BBQ spray.
