Besides the time consuming method of checking every brand of say, cornflakes, out there, does anyone know of books/websites, uk based preferably, that do a comparison for common children food?

Or have any mums done it and able to share?
I find Kelloggs too salty personally, also Hovis bread. Children's yogurt seem to have a lot of sugar.

All suggestions welcomed.

As for yoghurt, in general I tend to go for muller little starts fromage frais as they use all natural products, natural yogurt and puree basically. If you really want to cut out salt and sugar then perhaps natural yogurt and your own puree? I do this when I have time in big batches and freeze it, adding to natural yoghurt as and when I need it.

Hope this helps. So annoying having to check packets all the time isn't it.

You only have to check ingredients lists once though to do the compariseon, then you'll know.

Remember, just because something is labelled as only containing natural ingredients doesn't mean it won't have sugar or salt in it. Both sugar and salt are natural ingredients.

Sometimes supermarket's own brand of value products contain less salt and sugar than big leading brands, as it makes it cheaper for them. Not always, but sometimes, so it's worth checking. For example I think tesco's cheap cornflakes (but not the value ones) contain less salt than any other cornflakes.

Don't get obsessive though, a little sugar and salt in healthy active kids isn't gonna kill them.

I usually cook my own stuff so the puree thing sounds doable. However just found out Rachel's have started doing their own kiddy yogurts with fruit puree, just bought some so that's the temporary answer.
I encourage grazing as opposed to 3 set meals a day although they do have that but let them set their own limits (follow on from baby-led weaning). It does mean they seem to eat all the time and besides fruits, I'm trying to curtail too much salt/sugar in store bought stuff.
I've heard about own brand stuff but was hoping someone else had done the work (cheeky, I know!!) so that I don't have to : )
