Yes. Doesn't take as long to cook, and is (obviously....) quite sweet, so good with plain things.

You can slice into chips and bake in the oven with a little olive oil, too.

justallovertheplace · 26/04/2010 12:55

yep.
It's my ultimate comfort food. It's lovely on its own or with a bit of mozarella melted into it

itsmeitsmeolord · 26/04/2010 12:57

You can;

Bake it in its jacket
Mash it (good as a topping on shepherds pie)
Peel and then fling on the barbecue
Use it in soup (sweet potato and chorizo is lovely)
Pan fry and use in salads with chicken etc
Grate and then use in Rosti with a mix of normal and sweet potatoes.

they make fantastic oven baked fries. mushy inside, Crisp and slightly caramelised outside.

Toss in a little olive oil+salt+paprika+cinnamon and spread evenly on a baking.

takes about 20mn in hot oven.

cheeryface · 26/04/2010 14:49

yum will try that !

I think they are less fattening than normal potatoes.

GreatOrmondSt · 26/04/2010 16:52

Yes you can. It's my ultimate comfort food as well justallovertheplace, baked in the oven, with a tiny bit of butter and loads of fresh pepper. You can not beat a sweet potato . Amy

alittlebitshy · 26/04/2010 16:56

i think sweet potato has a lower gi so keeps you filled up for longer so in that sense healthier. I am eating a lot of them (baked) at lunch atm (on a diet) with things like cottage cheese/baked beans etc. scrummy.

OTTMummA · 26/04/2010 16:58

they aren't less fattening, but they have more nutrients, ie, they are better for you

nannyl · 26/04/2010 17:39

oh yes

i love it just with butter... yum yum yum!

maltesers · 26/04/2010 17:41

Sounds very nice... i must try Sweet Potato !! yum ..

OliviaMumsnet · 26/04/2010 17:42

Can you rebake 'em?

overmydeadbody · 28/04/2010 17:22

yeah you can rebake them

I ue them instead of poatoes most of the time, or do a mix of potato and sweet potato for things like mash (on its own, with fish pie and shepherd's pie etc etc)

realitychick · 29/04/2010 14:31

A friend of mine bakes them then adds fresh chilli & sour cream topping. Yum.

BeLove · 29/04/2010 19:08

My son, who doesnt like to eat much, loves little circles of sweet potato pan fried. They also add a sweetness to stews, yummy.
