Can you freeze home make cake? And if you can, do you just defrost it through and then just eat it or do you need to stick it back in the oven?

I froze my wedding cake, it was a chocolate sponge. We just left it out to defrost and it was fine! Hope this helps

nippy, what sizes did you freeze and defrost in?

I am just being tight and rather than going to Starf*#ks and buying cakes and spending a fortune, want to make and eat my own on the occasional afternoon.

yep you can - I've made sponges before, freeze as soon as cool, defrost in fridge overnight - good as new next day.

Haha I don't blame you! Although I am addicted to their chocolate brownies!

I made an 8in, 10in and 12in. Froze them wrapped in silver foil and still with the baking parchment on. It worked really well, decorated them when they were frozen too. If you ever want to shape cakes it's a little trick to stop them crumbling away as well!

All this talk is making me hungry...

Yes, easy peasy. Any size, freeze in plastic bag, take out, leave on worktop till not frozen any more. Or finish off defrosting in microwave and eat while still warm. I often keep bagful of muffins in freezer and defrost one by one.
