prawns for a 9-month old?

Just looking for a bit of advice here. DS2 (9 months) has been eating soup with prawns in it for the past few weeks. I totally neglected to associate prawns (well, little shrimps to give the soup some flavour) with shellfish. And as far as I remember shellfish shouldn't be given to under twos. DS2 has had no adverse reaction to the prawns. Should I stop giving them to him anyway? Thanks for your wise guidance....

The food standards advice is not before six months. And the advice to wait later is aimed at children from families with allergies in because there may be a risk of allergic reaction. If you have already given your ds prawns and he's not allergic, he's OK and you can carry on.

Lorien, I think Aloha is right - if you haven't noticed any reaction so far, then its fine to continue with the prawns (lucky baby ). My 3 kids all ate the odd meal containing prawns from about 7 or 8 months and dd still loves them with a passion!

Thanks oxocube and Aloha. Just what I needed to hear! Prawns give a nice strong taste to DS2's food without having to resort to salt. And I think I'm right in saying that salt is a definite no-no till 12 months??

I don't think it's ever necessary to salt children's food. I am a salt addict however, and really have to tone it down if cooking something that ds will share.
