Will sorrel be ok in a lentil and chorizo stew?

I normally add spinach just before the end but I don't have any - I do, however, have lots of sorrel in the garden. Am thinking it should go because of being lemony - is this a good idea?

sorrel will be fine but it is quite strong so dont add quite so much

I don't know but I would love your recipe, dd loves chorizo and lentils.

SethStarkaddersMum · 08/04/2010 17:04

it's easy peasy Twinset.

Fry some onion, garlic and celery then add green lentils and veg or chicken stock and simmer.
After 15 mins or so add some carrot and sliced chorizo.
The chorizo bleeds its lovely juices into the lentils and makes them yummy.
5 mins before everything else is done stir in a handful or spinach (or small handful of sorrel ).
Serve with brown bread and butter and a green salad.

I love sorrel but it does go a very yucky mud colour when cooked.

SethStarkaddersMum · 09/04/2010 10:41

The sorrel completely disappeared! Will try again and literally just stir it in a moment before serving.

A garden full of sorrel.
How lucky!

SethStarkaddersMum · 09/04/2010 10:49

It's not luck Moondog, it's because I planted it last year

Still.....
What do you do with it normally?
Is it easy to grow?
What else do you grow?

SethStarkaddersMum · 09/04/2010 13:06

Yes, it is easy, and I am the world's worst gardener.

I bunged a row of seeds in last spring and then forgot about them as I was pregnant and too sick to get in the garden. This year they started to come up again, chickens got in and ate it all down to the ground a few weeks ago, now it's all grown up again. Simple.

If I get round to it I'll transplant them from my veg beds to an empty bit somewhere else in the garden.

I have served it cooked as a veg with fish, and young leaves in salads.
The next thing I'll do is have it with a poached egg.

it's meant to make good soup as well.

They used to do a sorrel soup at the Waterside Inn in Bray. My Dad took my Mum there as a treat years ago, she had a few spoonfuls , went to the loo feeling ill and promptly fainted. Couldn't open her mouth for any dinner once she came round ( actual lockjaw ).

Bad sorrel allergy. She's not remotely allergic to anything else.Weird, man.

SethStarkaddersMum · 09/04/2010 13:58

Bloody hell Taffetacat.
I'll watch out for symptoms if I serve it to my family then!

Hey Moondog, I have half a pack of seeds you could have if you CAT me your address - I don't need them as last year's lot did so well (it's a perennial).

moondog · 09/04/2010 16:15

Oh that is kind-thank you.
I will sort out my CAT as expired ages ago.

taffetacat · 09/04/2010 18:20

Have to keep my Ma away from it,eh.

SethStarkaddersMum · 13/04/2010 17:46
