Number 2 birthday cake

(Have posted this in Parties, but then thought it would be more suited to food, so am posting here too!)

Has anyone made a # 2 birthday cake before without a # 2 cake pan? If so, how easy/hard is it. Thinking about doing one for my DD's 2nd birthday as I really don't feel like spending £20 on a cake pan or £50+ on a bought one!

Thanks!

I've used a cardboard disposable number before, but now can't remember what it's called. It only cost a couple of pound though.

Will try & find it for you!

And thanks Tilly, but that cake pan is just a bit too small.

bake a big cake, cut out your shapes (do a bit of origami for minimum waste), and stick the whole lot together with buttercream. i did that for a 1 and it looked fab.

second what debka says. make it a big cake so you have enough of the side to use as the curved number bit and then enough width remaining for the straight bit at the bottom.

as long as you ice it generously with buttercream you won't see any joins.

I used wordart in word to print out a big number that I used as a template.
