boil potatoes (I sometimes put a beef stock cube in with them), fry onions in other pan, open tin of corned beef (others use sausagemeat or minced beef) and fry with onions, drain cooked potatoes, chuck all in together and mash, adding bit of beef gravy.

For extra delicious stovies, chuck in a couple of carrots and some turnip.

Yum!

stovies are traditionally made with left over meat from joints etc not corned beef e.g minced beef/lamb etc

I fry oniong, brown mince, add oxo cube, add peeled chopped potatoes and then add water until potatoes are covered and let it cook till water absorbed

try not to stir it too hard as you don't want to break up the potatoes too much or you end up with mush

people do use sausages etc but we prefer mince

Cook a big lump of silverside and keep the fat. Chop the meat up.

Thickly slice potatoes, onions and very slowly cook them both until soft (in beef stock and the silverside fat).

Add the chopped up silverside and cook on lowest heat for another half hour or so.

Eat them with oatcakes.
