Afternoon tea in London

Just wondering if there were an London-based MNers that might be able to recommend a good afternoon tea in the capital? I don't want to go high-end because DH is taking me for my 30th and I'd rather spend the cash on other things but would still like to do it.

I went to afternoon tea at The Mandeville two years ago with my mates and loved it, just didn't want to pay anything over about £20 each.

Thanks!

Sorry can't be much help with this specific request but when you go high-end for your birthday I would absolutely recommend The Dorchester, we've done a few in London for special occasions and done The Dorchester twice and we love it.

Enjoy!

if you are in the mood for something a bit different i'd head to Yauatcha in Soho. Fabulous selection of teas and marvellous chinese-inspired cakes- some are literally to die for. I don't think it's that expensive compared to the savoy etc, but can't remember exactly.

The Dorchester is about £35 per person, but it really is fabulous! Just one of those great English things to do.

Bumping for you because I always want good ideas too!

There is this great little tearoom at the top of Kingley Court off Carnaby Street. It is called Camellia's World Tea and they do an afternoon tea for around £15 I think, haven't actually had it, but their tea is amazing and scones are delicious (served warm!) and great sandwiches, so can't really see how they could go wrong. Very relaxed atmosphere. Here's the link: www.camelliaworldteas.com/pages/the-shop_89.htm

Found a review for it here: www.dooyoo.co.uk/restaurants-cafes-national/camellia-s-world-teas-london/1299429//

Different sort of London experience, but I like tea on the lake at Victoria Park. Very cheap and the pavillion cakes are absolutely gorgeous. You certainly couldn't get a nicer setting, but trendy rather than very posh, I'm afraid!

Thankyou for all of your suggestions. I do love the idea of the Dorchester but I fear that £70 between two of us will eat into my shoe fund

I hear about Yauatcha but my cousin who is a Londoner says they've stopped doing afternoon tea

I've just been told by another friend about Bea's of Bloomsbury which also sounds fab. How to decide?! I might do one each day I'm there. Sod the diet!
