What can a new mum have for lunch....

...still getting used to not going to pret at work for a sandwich, not that keen on sandwiches anyway, but am not doing well at feeding myself properly during the day! 6 week DD gets her milk, and i get...leftovers, pate on toast for the 5th day in a row!! Too scared to eat soup over DD, so what else is easy?

And can be made 1 handed in a few mins flat!

thanks!

cereal
you'll get lots of "smoked salmon and scrambled egg" replies - personally I don't find them that quick to make

coldtits · 30/03/2010 17:52

Cheese on toast with red onion.

Scrambled egg on toast

Mushroom omelette

Hot baguette (get the parbaked ones) with Nice Ham and salad

IMoveTheStars · 30/03/2010 17:55

Jacket spud

Fresh pasta with sauce and rocket lettuce and some ham (takes 2 mins to cook, just stir in the sauce)

Last nights pizza

OTTMummA · 30/03/2010 17:55

pita bread with hummus and carrot/salad.

A HM roasted pepper and garlic and tomato pasta with grated cheese. - although you would have to make this the night before.

cheese on toast?
or cheese and onion toastie.

you need to prepare more, its important you get a good lunch, eating with one hand is fine, but your pretty limited making said lunch with one aswell.

remember what you eat goes into your milk, so make sure you prepare lunch a little before hand even if its making a little extra dinner and eating that for lunch the next day.

mazzystartled · 30/03/2010 17:55

make a big tortilla one evening and eat it over 2 or 3 days.
hummus wraps
chop up lots of crudites and buy breadsticks to eat with dips
embrace deli food in all it's ease and fabulousness

mazzystartled · 30/03/2010 17:56

put dd in a sling whilst cooking and eating

go out more!

Leftovers is great. I really struggle with lunches TBH. Sandwiches are so boring!

Try something you can shove in the oven or eat cold like indian snacks - samosas, pakoras and bhajis (local shops usually do the best cheap ones, though I love Tesco's samosas.) Sausage rolls are good to keep in the freezer and heat up in the oven, also things like scotch eggs and mini pork pies, nice crackers (sesame seed or chive ones etc) with ham and cheese, buy yourself some nice bread like a tiger loaf (get supermarket to slice for you) to make sandwiches/something on toast seem more appealing.

BertieBotts · 30/03/2010 18:05

Oh and check out the innocent veg pots - pricey but fantastic!!

felicity10 · 30/03/2010 18:05

christiana - soup in mug - why didn't i think of that, much blinking easier!!! I used to have a brain/ be serious career lady - honest!!!

IMoveTheStars · 30/03/2010 18:07

yes, but if you have your soup in a mug it'll be cold by the time you get to drink it

princessmel · 30/03/2010 18:08

I ate a lot of toast.

and missed lunches.

felicity10 · 30/03/2010 18:08

bertiebotts - you are a bad, bad lady with your cheeky chips!!! I shall have to report to the relevant authorities!! hmmm, now am sure there may be some lurking in back of freezer - all your fault if my bottom never fits my jeans again!

Sausage rolls!!!!

I make batches of pasta with sauce and freeze them, pasta and all, in single portions. Pasta is a bit "meh" but it works.

Not spaghetti though, hard to eat one-handed.

felicity10 · 30/03/2010 18:11

JarethTheGoblinKing - i have developed an appetite for microwaved coffee so why not soup eh!! sometimes micr'd several times, never used the micro so much!
