Yikes. We will be doing this later in the year. I imagined we would have to live on sandwiches

what about

soup
kippers and other "in the bag" fish
veg steams up nice in the microwave so lots of fresh veg
jacket pots?

sorry that's the best I can do. hence i will be watching this

My friend had to do this recently, and we will have to at the end of this month when the kitchen is being replaced.

I think the secret is to use ALL your equipment to the max, and not just the microwave, as things will cool down while you're reheating others in the microwave.

How about:

  • cous cous (just needs butter/ boiling water)
  • you can buy those 'toaster bags' which will let you 'grill' things in your toaster (like potato waffles / toasted sandwiches/ filled wraps )
  • Pasta - slightly undercook in the micro and leave on hot water to finish, while you heat up sauce.

DO you have a sandwich toaster/ george forman grill, or a slow cooker? Could you borrow any extra equipment from friends family? Have you looked on freecycle?

Can you get one of those wee camping stoves from Argos here. It's a £15 outlay but you can always use it for picnics/beach days in the (ha ha ha) summer.

You can do potato waffles in the toaster even without a bag IME.

Yum, potato waffles.

We did this last year for 6 weeks during a house refurb.

The microwaving just got really depressing after a few weeks. Not to mention doing the washing up in the bath. I also got fed up with cooking smells upstairs. ( We lived upstairs for 6 weeks waiting for the screed to dry on the floor so we could put the kitchen in ).We mixed it up with:

  • cold food
  • barbeques
  • kindly friends/family hospitality
  • the odd takeout/restaurant trip

As a child, my mum was queen of stuff on toast. Sardines, beans, cheese etc. Served with some raw veggies, these are rounded, nutritious meals. TBH, if you are only doing it for a few weeks then my advice would be just to make it as easy on yourself as possible.

My MIL has NO oven, NO hob, and 3 microwaves. I would NEVER cope in her kitchen but she always feeds us very well!

Three microwaves?? Why?
