Food for grieving friend

A dear friend's father is dying, likely to die today

I have offered to go over tomorrow to support her and wanted to take some food. I know she might not feel like eating, so I want to think carefully about what I make - something easy to eat/digest, something comforting maybe. Perhaps a cake or something sweet for pudding.

Has anyone been in a similar position and can advise? Thanks.

The night my FIL died we had salmon, brown basmati rice and steamed broccolli.

It felt nourishing and right (hard to explain)None of us were hungry but felt we should eat.

Thinking back to time around the deaths of my parents I just wanted easy nutritious things that I could eat when I felt like it as there was so much to do...

soup and nice rolls
lasagne or pasta bake
cake
chocolate...

I would make something that they can reheat easily, or could simmer on the stove as then they are more flexible on when to eat.

A cream of veg soup, with lots and lots of veg in it and some crusty bread.

Apple crumble and custard.

Comfort, easy food.

Cakes are handy, as they will probably get other people calling in to offer respects, and will want to offer tea and cakes. Also she might appreciate an extra pint of milk for the tea.

We had a friend whose wife was dying about 18 moths ago. We took over several meals in the time leading up to her death, and a few afterwards. Enough to feed the family for a meal or two each time......casseroles, bolgnaise sauce, pasta bakes my wife made (like woodshavings in polyfilla). The idea being that it was not so much "Comfort Food", but just something to save them having to think of what to cook (looking for ingredients etc), and to save them time.

Thank you for your suggestions. BF's dad died at lunchtime today, so I will put some of your suggestions into action.

Off to find a nice soup recipe.

Thank you.
