What can I do with a spare 9" disc of cooked shortcrust pastry?

I was cooking a savoury cheesecake for a party tomorrow, and the first disc of pastry was too small. So now I have a baked disc of pastry, and no idea what to do with it!

Will it keep? How? What could I put on the top?

Mini tartlet?

activate · 20/03/2010 22:08

lemon meringue pie?

MotherJack · 20/03/2010 22:08

You could do something like an open quiche I suppose. Like a quiche pizza?

tethersend · 20/03/2010 22:08

Frizbee?

MotherJack · 20/03/2010 22:09

I'm no expert, but would the lemon filling not just run off the flat pastry, activate?

MotherJack · 20/03/2010 22:10

NAUGHTY

Frisbee

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 20/03/2010 22:10

A cornish pastiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee with some of the left over sunday lunch? (yum)

activate · 20/03/2010 22:12

oh it's flat

sorry

stick it on the back of 4 elephants on the back of a turtle and see if it gets interesting?

activate · 20/03/2010 22:13

some of you may not get that last reference by the way - but for those who do

MotherJack · 20/03/2010 22:13

Ooooh.. is it my poor memory, or is that Terry Pratchett?

activate · 20/03/2010 22:16

yes

now you do one

penona · 20/03/2010 22:25

I like the elephant idea best!

The problem is indeed its flatness. I think it may end up in the bin. Or I may smear it with chocolate spread and eat it for breakfast if the kids get me up at 6am again....

Activate - it would seem that you have no useful skill or talent whatsoever. Have you thought of going into teaching?

MotherJack · 20/03/2010 22:28

Oh oh! Why did I not think of this earlier? You could make a pie filling and adorn it with your 9" disc of pastry. A quick reheat should ensure a lovely cheats pie.

Come on, I win hands down with that, don't I?

penona · 20/03/2010 22:30

Brilliant! And I just cooked a roast chicken tonight, and have loads of leftovers. And some leek and mushrooms. Mmmm, pie. I love pie. Perfect!!!

Yay! I feel your forthcoming pie happiness

janeiteisFedUp · 20/03/2010 22:48

Recipe for savoury cheesecake please?

meltedmarsbars · 21/03/2010 22:33

Yes, the savoury cheesecake recipe?

penona · 23/03/2010 22:30

It was delicious! It was a ricotta and basil baked cheesecake, with a tomato topping. V v yum. I got it from MN of course, the recipe is in The Guardian - Ottolenghi's New Vegetarian series - Ricotta Tart. Google and it will come up.

(Not made the pie yet. I must confess to breaking off bits of the pastry and snacking on them (head bent in fridge, so kids can't see). I have come to the conclusion there is nothing I won't snack on. )
