Hi, I'm due to go to majorca in 5 weeks ans I have a ds who is 6 months old, I am wondering what baby food is the best to take with me for him as I usually do all my own food but obviously due to lack of facilities etc on holiday I will have to buy ready made meals, please could anyone suggest what is best??

Many Thanks

Hipp Organic are lovely as are Baby Organix. I would advise you to bring a good supply too as I found the range in Lanzarote was fairly sparse and ds1 hated it. I would imagine Majorca would be similar. Also, some of the dried babyfood is good as it doesn't weigh as much or take up as much space as jars. Just another thing, nappies are very expensive in Spanish resorts so it might be worth bringing your own.

take dried food as suggested so as not to weigh yourself down, but you can do some of your own food quite easily eg mashed avocado or banana requires not cooking etc, if he's 6 months were are you in terms of weaning?

I liked Hipp organic

he is nearly 7 months and is on 3 meals a day, what are the dried meals like?

Janbo25 · 20/07/2005 19:05

They have Hipps organic in Majorca at the Spar supermarkets (yes, they do have them in most resorts) but bear in mind that they cost twice as much as here. I'm not quite sure about how big variety though for that stage as I was looking at the 10+ jars...

local fruit should be ok - mashed up avocado goes nicely with papaya, or kiwi and banana - you could bring along rusks or rice crackers. he could also be having the crusts from toast as finger food (just watch for choking!)
have a lovely holiday

Take lots of organic jars and supplement them with fork mashed foods, and don't stress about it too much, relax and enjoy yourselves

Where does baby organix now? I used to get the banana and strawberry one for DS - was his fav, but they seem to have stopped doing them. Sorry for the hijack!

Janbo25 · 22/07/2005 08:51

thats our plan to give plenty of fruit especially because he won't drink much so it's a good way of getting liquid into him

Depending on what facilities you have, you could do what we did. We prepared all the food the night before leaving and put it chilled in a freezer bag. When we arrived we used ice cube trays to feeze the food and then defrosted it when we needed it (15 minutes in the sun seemed to work).

Janbo25 · 22/07/2005 09:32

thats a very good idea spoo, why hadn't i thought of that!

Meant freeze not feeze. HTH. Just make sure they have a freezer on the premises.

I have just emailed the hotel now to ask

The Heinz fruit pots are good too, once used you can wash thoroughly and split a new container into 2 to make it last a bit better. Good containers for mashing your own banana etc in.

florenceuk · 22/07/2005 11:30

i've tried the babylicious range - actually very good, if somewhat smoother than my own purees doesn't have that "overcooked" texture of jars. Great for those busy weeks when you can't be bothered cooking. But not sure how you'd get them to Majorca without them defrosting.

However I think at 7mths you don't need to worry too much - some babies don't eat anything at that age (my DS often went on strike). If he doesn't like the local jars then banana, yoghurt, fruit purees, are all OK. Mashed potato is easy to do even in the most basic of kitchens. And lots of milk of course.

many thx for suggestions, fruit pots r good except my ds eats a full one!

When we went away with sil and her ds, loads of restuarants quite happily mashed us some pototoes and veg or whatever for him to have when we had a meal and didn't charge us anything!! That was in greece, but bet they'd do the same there.

Janbo25 · 22/07/2005 15:47

how old was he?? i would just be dubious about salt content in cooking liquid etc
