Any ideas would be much appreciated. I have banana bread planned but I can't think what else to make with the rest.

TIA

banana flapjacks - i had a similar thread

If i have any spare bananas, I peel + cut them up and pop them in the freezer for future use in smoothies.

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2010 13:00

they were lovely btw
out of interest, why do you have so many?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/03/2010 13:03

Banana milkshake. Banana's, milk a bit of sugar if needed and whizz in the blender - delicious.

You can freeze them whole and in their skins too.

Cut a slit in them and stick in chopped up chocolate or Mars bar, wrap in foil and bake.

I mash some up and keep in the freezer in an old ice cream tub, it's a great alternative to ice cream and my little ones then think it is actually ice cream!

banana muffins

Spidermama · 17/03/2010 13:29

Mash them up with cream and a little sugar and freeze. Take them out to mix up every now and then. Nice banana ice cream.

bluebump · 17/03/2010 13:38

Banana muffins, although you might not want those and banana bread. These taste lovely when made with bananas that are extra ripe.

StealthPolarBear · 17/03/2010 14:56

where is the OP?
I want to know how she has so many!!

silverwoodhelpdesk · 17/03/2010 15:02

My initial thought was banana tarte tatin which I have made before. It is very much like a banoffee pie, but best done with slightly under-ripe bananas.

Then I had a thought and 'Googled' Banana Jam. There are several recipes and they sound quite nice.

Thankyou all for the wonderful suggestions.

I've been busy making my steak pie hence the late reponse.

I bought a bag on Friday. Dp did some shopping again on Sunday for me, and I'd forgotten to cross bananas off the list so he purchased another bunch of them.

I have a memory like a sieve and I wanted to make banana bread, and forgetting there were already 2 large bunches at home, purchased yet another today.

lol
you could make one of those fruit hats, heavy on the bananas!

choosyfloosy · 18/03/2010 10:32

If lazy or running out of time, just lob them in the freezer as they are. Better to mash them as poster further up says, but they freeze well and make great snacks for mummies who have the munchies.

MathsMadMummy · 18/03/2010 10:35

my mum used to chop them up and freeze them, then stick them in the blender and add grated dark chocolate - turns out like ice cream, YUM!!!

More banana bread for the freezer.
Long time ago tesco changed their online ordering defaults and I thought I'd ordered my usual 5 bananas.

I got 5 kg.
That's 38 bananas, but 4 loaves of banana bread got rid of most of them.

RuthBlackett · 18/03/2010 10:47

roffle@SPB

I have about 14 (yes- another shopping cock-up), so am lurking hoping for inspiration... I probably draw the line at banana jam though.

Homemade banana icecream is utterly delicious I can attest...

LetThereBeRock · 18/03/2010 13:15

Well guess what my mother dropped off to me today, in amongst some other goods, because they were doing a buy one get one free deal?

LetThereBeRock · 18/03/2010 13:24

LOL. Well there was chocolate and a bag of apples too but also six more of the long yellow things.

oh no
at this point i'd be seriously suspecting a conspiracy!
Did she not notice you were overrun?

SoupDragon · 18/03/2010 13:28

Cut up and freeze in the quantities necessary for banana bread etc. They're fine for baking once thawed.

Donbon · 22/03/2010 11:41

I don't quite have 22, but do have a bunch that are looking decidely over-ripe. Can anyone recommend a good banana cake recipe? Or muffins? I tried a link further up but it did not work...

Cheers.
