Griddle recommendations please

I would like to buy a griddle and would appreciate your recommendations please. Is it you get what you pay for? Does anyone have a brilliant brand they can recommend?

I am thinking of cooking Welsh cakes and sultana pancakes, but any other griddle recipes that you would recommend would also be much appreciated.

I was waiting to see if anyone else fronted up, but they didn't. I am here to help.

At the risk of being too commercial, you could look at this. It is suitable for all hob types except induction.

There are also other brands of cast iron griddles about, but not always easy to find flat ones. With a bit of searching (Google - images) you should be able to find something.

Silverwood - thanks, thats exactly what I am looking for. I had heard also that Lakeland stock them, about the same price I think.

Falafel - I have a Le Creuset frying pan like the one you use, but was thinking a flat one may be better for me ie. one with no sides - may be easier for Welsh cakes etc. I am super clumsy. How do you find doing that sort of thing in yours?

hi, we have a Cuisinart contact griddle - it is brilliant, would recommend, not cheap but pays for itself in terms of time freed up to 'entertain' - also good for BBQs in the garden (though not cordless though like us, you probably have a kitchen leading out to the garden)

Taffetacat, Lakeland don't stock that one. As far as I can see, the only flat (non-ridged) one they do is non-stick and has a rim.

I got mine from John Lewis. it is their own brand and is pretty durable (I am very hard on cookware). Yum yum, griddled asparagus with parmesan cheese.

Silverwood - silly question. I am assuming the handle doesn't get hot?

Am wondering which will be easier for me to use. The ease of use will make a massive difference to how often I use it. I can see Silverwood's one would be good as its got no rim so easy for sliding stuff off, but am wondering if a traditional handle would be easier, maybe the Silverwood one would get in the way?

It will get hot, but as the handle is Stainless Steel, it won't get too hot too quickly. If you have it on the hob for a long time you can always use oven gloves.

With the handle in the "up" position, it shouldn't get in the way, and in the "down" position, it will take up less room in your cupboard than the other (rather nice looking) one.

There are handle covers that my sister gets for ger copper pans. I just pop my oven mitt over the end so that no-one picks it up by mistake!
