I'm making a dessert tart on saturday ...i havent got a flan/tart tin so i asked my friend is she had one i could borrow... she comes back with a big glass one. ...ok here's where you laugh.....it's ok to cook a tart in this isnt it? i know it should be but still...its glass! and will it make a difference if its not a tin one like the recipes says.
thanks lovelies!

The pastry isn't as crispy as in a tin, but yes, you can cook them in a glass dish - I have a glass pie dish. Are you going to serve it from the dish? You might find it harder to remove it in one piece otherwise...

will it be a pain to get out then? what about covering the dish in foil? (as you can tell i never use glass when cooking!)

I would just grease it well, rather than use foil. You've then got the problem of lifting the foil away from the dish, and the tart away from the foil!

oh serve it from the dish
do not attempt to remove - you can only do that with loose-bottomed metal tins or really good nonstick ones

and you will have to bake the case blind (ie covered in foil weighted with rice or similar) before adding filling, even if recipe says not to.

omigosh ive not used glassware in baking...eeeek whats that about 'bake the case blind' its all very technical speak ...lol

Not a silly question at all.

Baking blind just means you part bake the pastry before you put any filling in it, so it cooks properly and doesn't go too soggy.

Just put the pastry in the dish and put a layer of baking parchment over it and weight it down with either baking beans or uncooked rice. Cook in a medium hot oven for about 15 mins or until it starts to go slightly coloured.
