Coffee cake help

Was planning to make a coffee and walnut cake for my DH's bday, and was looking at the recipe and it asks for coffee essence/camp coffee.

Have never used these and wondered whether they tasted right in a cake recipe or whether I would be better off making some espresso in my stove top maker and using the same quantity of that? Thoughts/opinions/experiences please!?

Thanks

I've made a coffee cake in the past by just dissolving a tablespoon of instant coffee in a little boiling water and adding that to a plain sponge mix, so I'm sure a nice strong espresso will do the trick very well.

coffee essence is much stronger even than espresso - Camp is actually fabulous in cakes

Might go and get a bottle then Mrs B... does it keep well? (as no doubt will remain at the back of the cupboard till his bday comes around again!

Camp coffee is indestructible. And delicious in cakes.
The other thing you could try is instant espresso powder which you can make up with just a little boiling water, so you're not adding too much liquid to your cake batter or your icing.
Mmmmmmmm coffee cake.

another vote for camp coffee despite the apparent waste
tbh for a special occasion it's worth it

I love coffee cake made with Camp coffee. DH loathes coffee in any format and so itcomes down to coffee cake or marriage.

Damn, I'm going to miss that man
