My house is going to burn down isn't it?

I have my sausage and onion casserole thingy in the slow cooker ready for tonight when I finish work.

In 8 hours??? That can't be right surely? The sausages are going to catch fire and burn down my messy beautifull kitchen aren't they?

will be fine

mine has been on all day and will remain on overnight

they use less power/leccy than a lightbulb

The only way it'll burn your house down is if the plug socket shorts out and fries your wiring. Slow-cookers are lukewarm at best...

palacemonkey · 02/03/2010 15:55

that's why I've not used my slow cooker yet... are you sure the kitchen won't burn down? it doesn't seem right somehow for it to be OK....

I always leave mine on and then go out, it's what slow cookers are designed for.
Delicious sausage casserole when you get in, lucky you

It doesn't seem right to me either palacemonkey. But I only work around the corner. Hopefully I will notice the huge clouds of smoke before the fire desrtoys the rest of the house

It doesn't seem very hot to touch, mind you.

maybe I'll dig mine out and give it a go then... but if it's not hot to touch, how does the food cook??? maybe i should read the instruction book before posing these questions?

I am happy to announce that in the 9 hours since dh switched ours on, my house hasn't burned to the ground

First time I've done a work day and left it on. Will be doing it again. Soon.

Slow-cookers? Baby stuff. If you want 'thrilling' you should do what I used to do with my fancy programmable gas oven.... set it to switch itself on at a certain time and cook the casserole that way. I always had visions of the pilot light malfunctioning.... tick, tick, tick, BOOM!! Never did of course.

Now I've traded it in for a programmable electric oven I miss the excitement.
