Mums,

I am the manager of a restaurant in leeds, and would love to hear your opinions...

We have a lovely, child friendly, gastro pub and want to know what you look for and want in a restaurant when you go for lunch/dinner with your little ones.

We aim to make it as child friendly and safe for children as possible and your input would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Sophie

Where in Leeds are you - we could come and give you a baby and children work out!!

Food that can be easily seperated into it's constituents - seperate sauce and pasta, pizza with no tomoatoes / cheese etc!
Nut, gluten, dairy and tomoato free options.
Quick service especially for children's food.
Nice food for parents!!
Colouring stuff for the table is good.
Baby cutlery
Nice and clean high chairs (the ones that strap onto chairs are good)
A bead table / book basket / colouring table.
Did I say nice food for parents (some places that are great for kids have mediocre food for adults!)

A bit of space around the tables so that if ds decides he's had enough of sitting still he can have somewhere to play with his cars. Or maybe an area where they can go to colour/play etc that can be easily seen from the tables where adults will be sitting. DS has ASD and so a window that has a wide windowledge is great for lining up his cars on!! (BTW this is just a personal want from me!!!)

An extra plate for cooling down food, and maybe not serving such piping hot food for the little ones? I understand that there would be some kind of health regulation on serving food hot but sometimes the poor children can see their food and want to eat it but can't as it is served far too hot!

I seem to be going on a bit here......

We are in Chapel Allerton, The Mustard Pot.

We'd love for you to come and give us a babie work out!

Thank you both for your feedback, it is much appreciated!

Nowhere near you sadly but here's what I'd like:

  • Tour of the kitchen/prep area
  • Something for kids to look at - aquaria are good
  • Walking around space
  • Taster pots of food at silly prices eg 50p so kids can try a variety of adult food
  • Special interaction with serving staff. Don't just talk to the parents. I will always remember going on holiday to Greece when I was about 7 and the waiters talking to me and making a fuss of me. This hardly ever happens in this country - except for occasionally at Italians - and it stays with you for life. Happy child in a restaurant prob means good tips from parents and return visits.

In short, I can bring my own colouring books etc etc but the way the restuarant can make a difference is food and service.
