Root Vegetables

I am visiting an acupuncturist and she has told me to eat more root Vegetables. Unfortunately I really dislike them when they are cooked (She says I should cook them not eat them raw) so I am struggling to eat them.

I have been roasting them in sage in the oven, things like sweet potato, carrot, swede...

Does anyone know, apart from mashing them and putting them in potato, ways in which I can get rid of the sweetness? I am a real savoury person so things like cooked parsnips and carrots are just far too sweet and eating them makes me gag.

Use them in a soup with smoked bacon to offset the sweetness.

NinjaChipmunk · 23/02/2010 20:26

could you curry them?

aseriouslyblondemoment · 23/02/2010 22:37

agree with grimma with the soup idea but perhaps bulking it out with lentils perhaps

marinade in soy sauce and garlic before roasting?

(what on earth has root veg got to do with acupuncture???)

Cooking them with cheese offsets some of the sweetness. Ie. parsnips in parmesan or sweet potato cheese bake.

Try making spicy soup with them - there's a Nigel Slater recipe for parsnip and turmeric and chilli coup which DH likes despite scorning parsnips in all other forms.

MMOC apparently it's all to do with my 'QI'

thank you for the ideas, soup or cheese seems like the best option.

Since when did acupuncturists become dieticians?

DuelingFanjo · 24/02/2010 11:40

well, the way I understand it is that Acupuncture is a chinese medicine so it is really quite tied in to what you eat.

It's not just about sticking pins in but also about pulses (as in wrist pulse) and blood flow. Things like Porridge and licorice can effect the way blood moves around your body.
