Tea loaf making questions

I've got a voucher for Lakeland and want to buy some of the loaf tin liners. They come in 1lb and 2lb sizes but I don't know which to get. I have a loaf tin which, measuring the inside, is about 8.5" long x 4.5" wide x 2.5" deep. Is this 1lb or 2lb?

Also, how can you tell what size loaf a recipe makes if it - oh so very helpfully - doesn't tell you in the recipe? I'll be making tea loaves, that sort of thing. There's a honey tea loaf recipe from Cbeebies which sounds nice and I'll be checking MN for more. I also have a bran tea loaf recipe from school, although the paper may have disintegrated by now!

Thanks.

tbh your tin sounds like a 1lb one off the top of my head
loaf recipes are always for 1lb cakes unless it actually states 2lb
your recipes sound lovely btw

My recipe is for a 2lb loaf and it uses around 12oz dried fruit. The weight of all the ingredients together might give you an indication? If you want my recipe let me know (it takes 5 mins the night before and 5 mins in the morning, then an hour to bake).. bit more bara brith than tea loaf, but they are very similar!

Right. I'm even more confused now. My mum's just been and I showed her the loaf tin. She thought it looked a 1lb tin, as did my dad (!).

I've gone to the Lakeland website to order the liners and compared the measurements of the liners to my loaf tin (didn't think of that yesterday - stressed with potty training DS2). The measurements of the tin more or less match the 2lb liners! Aaggghhh!

See, this is why I don't bake. I'm getting stressed before I even start. And also I'm a lazy so and so.

120 - I'd love to try your recipe (if I ever actually get to the baking stage).

I'm looking at silicone muffin cases too ... foolish, foolish woman ...

Thanks for your help so far by the way both of you.

lol at being too stressed with potty training. I know the feeling!

I've posted the brith and a coconut recipe on the blog for you to use in your 2lb loaf tin! Both very popular with toddlers.

forgot the link: bara brith and a coconut bread recipe

scroll down page hereto see loaf tin dimensions for 1lb and 2 lb

I make a Tom Norrington Davies traditional tea and fruit loaf every month in my loaf tin ( with Laleland liners! ) the whole family love it, its sooo easy and the only fat in it is the egg.

That coconut bread recipe sounds good.

Thanks for the replies and recipes.

Right, going off the measurements from the Lakeland site, I ordered the 2lb liners. If they turn out not to fit my loaf tin, well I'll just have to go and buy another one won't I? Do I know how to live or what?

Also ordered a cupcake set and a Pudsey biscuit cutter. I'm going to look for a mini muffin tray too. Loaves, cupcakes and now contemplating biscuits and muffins ... where will it all end?

The DC are going to be really confused when they see me spending so much time in the kitchen - other than to get chocolate or crisps!

mrs badger gave me a great simple biscuit recipe once you move on to them...

jsgirl, your pan sounds like a small 2lb one. It shouldn't be a problem though, it will just be a shallower loaf than if you used a 1lb pan. Different manufacturers measure their pans differently (wet dough or dry dough, or baked loaf), not terribly helpful I know.

If the liners don't fit, just use ordinary baking parchment.
