Muslims and Halal Food

Can anyone tell me the issues that might arise if you had a person with halal requirements in your house. I don't know if it is possible to have any degree of certainty (I imagine some people observe rules more strictly than others)?

We have a pretty mixed diet which does include various meats including pork. Would that be offensive for a muslim?

The reason for asking is that I have had an au pair apply for a job (live in for 6 months) and she is halal. Will this mean that we have to remove sausages / bacon from the fridge/freezer? Would she cook them for DCs? Would she be able to share our meals (obviously not the pork ones) if they contain non halal meat? I know that certain strict Jews have demarcated kitchens - would this apply to us? ie would she have problems using a grill which had had bacon grilled on it (after it had been cleaned)?

Thanks in advance.

If she has said that she only eats halal then she would not share your non-halal meals and she would not want her food to be near pork/pig products - you would need separate areas for your food.

She also might not want to use the grill even if it has been washed but may be more flexible on this. The fact that she is applying for the position does suggest that she would not be very strict in this matter though.
