5th b'day party - what I want them to eat or what they want?

Have got 12 girls for party this Friday. Hate junk. Want to do all homemade and also eat cake as part of birthday tea.
Will any of them touch it? Should I just give them want they want ie crisps and fairy cakes?

Make sure you cook them though! (DS2 had a laser party at a very seedy dive in Morecambe last year and the wedges and nuggets appeared to be merely thawed. Barf.)

I love party bags, sobernow, and will happily sit under anybody's party table and read a book

Only if I've been given alcohol. Otherwise I'll collect myself and drive myself home. Thank you

It will be a fab party. Especially after they've all gone home!

if you can't be arsed to make them - the M and S wedges are fantabulous

Things I've done for parties - homemade bread rolls, (if you make them yourself you can make them really tiny/bitesize), bowls of cheese cubes and grapes, garlic bread, strawberries, french bread pizza. I did a birthday cake for dd last year that was a big dundee cake, with a little pink icing on the top, and a circle of dolly mixtures. (Ds always has horrible e-number filled 'feature' cakes (e.g. fire engine) that dh makes ). Little sausages are great for parties, or even big sausages, satsumas, cubes of melon.

Or you could go for turkey twizzlers

pennyless I had 30+ children (aged 2-6) for dd and ds1?s joint party, did rolls, home-made cakes and biscuits, crisps (yes...) mini sausages (made from nice sausages from local butchers) plus tomatoes, grapes, strawberries, raspberries.
It all got eaten. Helped that it was lunch time so they were actually hungry. Also that I didn't do masses cause I don't like waste.
I like to have crisps and some sweet stuff otherwise it doesn?t seem like a party, but also agree with you re not too much crap.
WWW - lol at you scourign labels for trans-fat-free cakes!
Have decided the only answer is to make your own.
BTW can I recommend Nigella's butter cut-out biscuits, they are worth the trouble (and you can freeze the dough) and they just vanish!

so has the menu been decided?

it will be fine.
just try to enjoy it too!! @its your day as well!!!!

mandyc66 · 15/07/2005 17:22

can I say I have done a variety of parties so when i said hotdogs and icecream I was saying it for ease and from experience!!! Depends on age of children and time of party too!!!

fsmail · 15/07/2005 21:51

Just done a fifth birthday party and we served jam sandwiches (fruit spread), mini sausages, crisps, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, mini cheeses and grapes. Tried any other type of sandwiches last year and none of them got eaten only the jam ones so did not want the expense. Also garlic bread always goes down well. Did serve Tescos Power Ranger cake. Cannot cook cakes or have the time to with work and two kids. All that was eaten.

fsmail · 15/07/2005 21:52

Oh and for afters did frozen frubes instead of icecream. Went down very well. It was a hot day

mandyc66 · 15/07/2005 21:53

sounds perfect...can I come to next one?
Love fruit spread!!!!
